They dont stop amazing me.

some of you may know the recent http//maps.google.com beta of google maps.

well, today they PUT IN SATELLITE MAPS for whatever u're looking for. Search for directions, click on Satellite and holy shit, u see the map from a satellite with your route marked on it. No more getting lost with confusing maps. This is god damn amazing. Huge props to google for this.

[ba3c62c02df]EDIT[/ba3c62c02df] get directions, zoom in all the way, and trace ur whole route to the detail. it's the sickest shit!

P.S. apparently this has been around for a week now, but it's new to me.

Mapquest had it, but doesn't have the satellite photos anymore. Also you could never drag the map on there.

upon searching for Area 51 (apparently its 90 miles north of las vegas), zoomed in the whole way this appeared on the screen.....somewhere in the desert......you can read what it says...it looks like RSGRULZ.....just thought it was kinda strange.

That is definitely awesome. I live in Philly and the pictures they have must be pretty old. Veterans Stadium is still up dating them at least a year. I'll be ireally impressed when they get closer to live. A few days would be awesome for things like construction on highways and what not.

yeah, satellite imagery. but satellite imagery combined with directions (and draggable maps) is a first (maybe except mapquest)

It's cool, huh? All the other satellite photos that I have seen of my house were always blurry and black and white. These are crystal clear. Good stuff.

actually i think google teamed up with keyhole to do this map thing.

you guys should see keyhole's earthviewer program... they give you a 3d earth, you type in the address and it just zooms right into the spot you typed it... and the 3d earth has elevation levels, so there are hills and things. it's really awesome... i go to japan and look at the people (the images are even sharper)

I'll be another to vouch for Keyhole. Also, it really is amazing how when Google releases something, it finally becomes known. This technology has been around for 4 years at least. Globexplorer partnered with mapquest. You can also go to http//terraserver.microsoft.com/ which has done it for a while too.

haha! same here. we were getting directions to Union Station (LA) andn the stupid mapquest led us the Opposite way to a dead end!!
