Hey everyone,
With the crazy popularity of these forums (twice as much as the main page, at least, and the main page gets a lot of hits) I've decided to try a single text link advertisment.

You can see it up at the top of every forum page. This is being done on a trial basis for one week.

This is by no means a set-in-stone decision; I would love to hear from you guys what you think. I may also set up a system in which users can purchase the advertisment space with an automated paypal system.

Feel free to post here or PM me if you have any thoughts, concerns, or comments!

kinda neat....that's what i would do if i had a booming site like this.

not sure how the "purchasing ad space" thing would work. Might get a bit crammed with ads.

gl, admin!

Sounds like a great idea, just don't let it get out of hand.

Only one ad would be displayed at a time. You would be able to purchase that space for a certain amount of time...

actually, that sounds kinda neat. How much do you think this ad-space would be costing?

Admin

I'm looking at $20/day, with discounts for longer periods. Still up in the air, though.

sounding even better....now are we talking any type of ref link or what? 8)

As long as it's within the size restrictions.

The only concern I have is that I would effect the appearance that this site is legit. Its not crazily out of hand but just a thought.

Don't make it look like Gearlive (Ge@rlive), where if you hover over the word iPod a popup comes up. That shit makes everything look so unprofessional.

edit Nice use of the text filters ;)

i dont like the ad. i liked haveing a site i could come to where i wouldnt be bothered by ANY ads. there are so few ad free sites these days. hmm...

Admin

Craser, I sympathize with your feelings, which is why I tried to make it a single, unobtrusive, text-only ad that doesn't clash with the rest of the page. I may consider, in the future, an option to show no ads for those who have donated.

Personally...I think the ad takes away from the purpose of the forums. We're here to trade and share information...why would people signup through the ads when they could trade for a referral or get paid? Just my .02 D

I was actually hoping people would use it for links other than referrals, since there are, like you said, a number of existing ways for getting them that are also effective. I have had a number of people launching new sites ask for advertising space, and someone might use it to draw traffic to their trading forum post, for example. There are many possibilities...

I see...yeah, it'd be cool for advertising in that sense, as long is it doesn't get out of control, ya know?

Yeah, sorry guys, working on a new system for rotating + purchasing ad space since your response has been so positive. Kinks are almost entirely worked out. Like he said, just keep reloading.

It looks kind of weird right now. But I'm sure after a few days we will all get used to it. I think it will be a good idea as long as personal referral links are not posted up there.

/me Checks out the new "Buy Text Ad" link on the top right

i think the ad looks tackey.... maybe it should be at the bottom of the page?

my only suggestion is, clicking on the Ad link should launch a new window instead of loading the link target in the current window.

Good idea. I'll implement that when I get home.

I guess its if you really need the money. Your already making $90 a day with the other adds. Thats $32,850 a year. (You seam to have most days booked ahead so thats considering everyday) Minus the $1000-2000 for bandwidth and $20 for the domain thats still $32,830 a year. The extra $20 a day could bring in another $7300 though. Not bad income for running a website. I used to be an Admin at a forum so thats where I am getting the bandwidth prices. lol

Most days aren't sold. Your numbers are way off.

Just as long as [b0c5a95f543]"Studio Traffic - $10 Free. Earn up to $3600/month autosurfing"[/b0c5a95f543] doesn't turn into [b0c5a95f543][i0c5a95f543]"OMFG F'KN STUDIO TRAFFIC CLIX H3R3!!"[/i0c5a95f543][/b0c5a95f543][/color0c5a95f543][/size0c5a95f543] with big flashy colors and vomit inducing motion. The betterment of a website ultimately requires mula, but I agree with some of the others Don't let it get out of hand.

At least, not right now. ;)

The only one that isnt booked up is handbags. Also shuffle is only booked up one day. Still you made $80 on those today. Hey if I was in your position I would do the same. D Its good to know somebody else is making money. Knowing your getting $20 a day for that add up there makes it bug me less.

You aren't taking into account the many days that go by without being sold. Plus, a lot of the links up there are pro bono, for friends and associates. And jahreee, if you read the "buy text ad" link it specifically says that all links are to be profanity, all caps, and excessive punctuation free.
