I'm about to build a website for my brother, who is an independent musician. I've built sites before but never went far enough too find a host, buy a domain name, etc. This website would be getting VERY little traffic (i would imagine)... The address would be spread by word of mouth and buisnesscards as well as links from a few other sites like purevolume.com
Can you guys recommend a few hosting sites (there are so many!). I would need very little space (room for a few mp3s etc.). I don't want to be paying monthly for this (yearly - [cheap])as I really doubt Its going to get much traffic. thats all hope someone can help me out. -george

if you really want to go that cheap and will be that little traffic just go free, something like geocities then just register a domain and have it masked forwarded to the free site

You probably won't get a free host with no ads. If you do, they're very rare and sometimes unreliable.
Fuitadnet.com is pretty cheap but they're probably more than you need.
Here's a cheap one http//www.made2own.com/index.php?id=hosting&ref=special

From what I've seen, you have to pay something in the range of $50/yr of you want reliable hosting. You don't want to look unprofessional or be generally annoyed with having to deal with a site that isn't always up.
There are plenty of hosts that guarantee 99% uptime (don't go with the ones that offer 100%, because that's bullshit) for cheap prices.
I currently have an account with http//www.micfo.com and they have been tremendously good to me. I paid for 3 years in advance, costing me $135, taxes included (less than $50/yr).
Check the PM I sent you.

depending on how long you'll be up Dreamhost offers a $7.77 for the first year for
1 FREE domain registration
www.yourname.com
3 full domains, 15 subdomains
2400 MB Disk, 120 GB Transfer
600 Mailboxes, 75 Shell/FTP Users
I have a friend who hosts a real site there - he's never had a problem.
