Hey, I was wondering if starting a site like yourfreevideoipods.com would be a problem if I registered at a University of Illinois dorm room. I don't know if the entire dorm building shares the same IP or something, and maybe that would cause a problem. Please help me out. TIA!

You need to figure out if everyone has a different IP.

ok, ill try to find that out. In the meanwhile, does anyone know how a dorms' interent is usually set up Shared vs. separate IP?

I stopped putting my ref link in my AIM info because one guy wanted an Ipod and AFTER I FUCKING TOLD HIM NOT TO SIGN UP i go down to his room and the "complete an offer" page on freepay's up. Thank god he was on a different 24 port switch block.

Just go sample a couple computers at whatismyip.com if they're the same, then the answer is no, if they're different, then...go for it with discression

My school uses cable modems in the dorms. Up to 24 people are on the same IP (but never are) and there are about 6 modems per building or so. So 6 IPs. Don't chance it...fuck the dorms...its' too risky

Only if my school had used same IP for 24 people, my poor room mate wouldn't have gotten sued by RIAA.

by the way, im asking for my sister, cuz im only 17 and obviosly not in college. But she says that her roomate's IP is the same for the first 3 parts, but not the last part. Is that different enough? Or does that basically count as the same IP?

That'll do just fine.

That IP is most likley the one on the local network, not on the interent. Probably has something like 192.168.0.li. The ones that the internet sees are different, and the school probably has a few of those. If she used the what is my IP site to get her IP though, you should be fine.
That being said, I beleive that Alan stated that they have a way of figuring out if you're in a dorm or now.
