If you want the money, then you would accept, it's mainly for you to review the user before taking any funds from them. If a user is not paypal verified then it could throw a red flag not to accept for some people. There's more to it probably, but I've always accepted

so there is no harm in accepting? It's not like i'm accepting the "Pending" of the dude's payment right? HE already paid for the item?

Right, it's exactly like he already explained

You don't get the money until you accept the payment, so yeah, if you want it, you accept. ) If you don't then after so many days (30?) the funds go back to the payer.

Certain types of payments, such as from business accounts, don't require manual acceptance, they're automatically accepted.

Haha.
I've had a Business verified ever since I opened my account, and as far as fees, it's usually not a big deal.
Of course on big ticket items it adds up, but what you should do is open up a new personal account, so you have one of each.
Ps, you're allowed 1 personal, and one premier/business account, so yes it's allowed.

2.9% + $0.30 of each payment you receive is the fee you pay for having a premier account.

Exactly. With a Personal account, there is no fee, but you can not accept payment by CC, only from a PP balance. There are also limits on how much you can send and receive in a month.

With a Premier account, you pay the fee for most incoming transactions (except MassPay), but no fee for sending money. This is what I have, because I have needed the CC part. What I do with ebay auctions that are for a small amount (less than $20 profit), is I list in my auction that paypal is [bda8ab55432]sometimes[/bda8ab55432] accepted, and then when I send the invoice, I give them the option of adding whatever the fee would be (up to a $, in my case). Most people are ok with paying $.50 or $.75 for the convenience of Paypal after I explain. What my invoice says is this

"Congratulations, you are the winning bidder on this item. Payment can be made by PayPal if you are willing to add $.65 to cover the fee that PayPal charges me. I ship next day for payment by PayPal or money order. Personal checks may be held 7-10.................etc, etc"

Just a suggestion. I know many of my auctions close at $5 or less, so I couldn't afford the fee, but this seems to work.

Laurel - that's not permitted per eBay's TOS.

That's what I was about to say. Just like VISA/MC merchants cannot charge a surcharge to take credit cards, neither can you charge extra to take PayPal. You have to consider it as a cost of doing business, and use it as overhead when setting your prices.

What I normally do with eBay is factor potential PayPal fees into my s/h charges. Depending on how much I expect an item to sell for, I'll estimate what PayPal charges, eBay listing fees, packaging costs, etc. will add up to. For most items less than $100, you're looking at $4-$5, tops. If it's a much cheaper item, then even less. I then add that fixed amount to the exact shipping charges (I use the shipping calculator which lets you add this fixed fee on to whatever shipping charges the calculator comes up with).

eBay allows you to add a reasonable fixed fee on top of shipping to cover your costs. Key word being "reasonable" -- eBay has been cracking down on ridiculous s/h fees. Charging somebody $15 to ship a stick of RAM that you toss in a padded envelope with 2 stamps is wrong, and is nothing more than profit padding. However charging them $5 would be reasonable, and would more than cover your fees and shipping costs.

Most people on eBay just add a bit more to their shipping fees and that usually covers it.

Interesting. I must have missed that in ebay's TOS. I've been selling on ebay since 1999, and had never even heard of PayPal then, so I guess it got added in later.

Thanks for the advice.
