Why do you allow BANNED Avatars to those that aren't banned?

Things are difficult enough on here as it is. Why do you allow users to pay to use this avatar? Now someone who really is banned can say "oh, I'm really not". How are we to know unless we PM a mod all the time? I'm sure you don't want that.

I know Diablo isn't banned but now I see jlaw is using the same avatar. I have no idea why you would want to do this in the first place.

Because it's not worth the time policing everybody's avatar. If it's someone you're in a trade with, or otherwise need to know if they're banned, PM that person shrug

You know, a big clue would be the fact that they're actually still posting. If their account is banned, they wouldn't be posting from it.

Well, I figured they couldn't post if they are really banned, but then I saw people doing it and got confused. I guess that works if it's a brand new post, but if the post is a few days old, you wouldn't know for sure. If you pm them and they can reply then they aren't really banned either?

I guess for those of us that are concerned we can just choose not to trade with those people and avoid the headache altogether. I just wanted to post this topic because I'm sure I'm not the only one who is confused.

If they're banned, they cannot login to the forums at all, much less post, PM, or reply to PM's.

You can certainly choose who not to trade with, but knowing that the person isn't banned, I'm not sure why it would matter? They're just having some fun with avatars & titles. It's no big deal.

I have to agree Sweetmama - it can be a bit confusing. There are so many nice avitars out there - I wonder why they would choose one that is so negative. Maybe they think it grabs your attention. Not sure?

They probably either just think it's funny (it is a humorous little icon) or enjoy causing a little confusion. But, like dmorris said -- they can't post or PM while banned, so that's how you can tell they aren't. And like I said earlier, I think our time is better spent on other things to better the forum, then have to worry about what avatar each person has. If it's an offensive avatar, that's one thing, but the Banned avatar doesn't hurt anyone.

I do agree that the mods don't have time to police the avatars, I was just saying I thought the banned avatar should be removed from the list someone could choose from to avoid confusion. Then there wouldn't be any policing involved. I was trying to make less work for you guys, not more. I guess I just don't have a sense of humor when it comes to money oops

When I was just getting started here, I remember reading a post by a moderator who said he couldn't believe that some people were still going into trades with people who were banned. Didn't they see the word banned and the ban avatar? As a newbie, I interpreted this to mean that someone who was banned could somehow still post here and use the trade module, which didn't make sense but I saw Diablo and others with a banned avatar posting on a daily basis. It wasn't until today that I realized this isn't the case. Now I realize that they must have been going outside the trade module.

I guess I just didn't want someone to get scammed accidentally. If nobody is going to get hurt, then I'll let this go and agree to disagree. I know the mods work very hard for no pay and they can run this site however they want. Thanks for everyone's input.

Yeah, I got it as a joke, I haven't done a trade since late '06, I just use FiPG to talk to people, so it doesn't really matter. I'll probably change it soon, though.

Near PMs on the top right corner click "Titles", it costs $5 for a title, I made mine banned, and then changed my avatar. )

DIABLO just paid for the banned title. And then set his avatar to that icon.

He's not REALLY banned. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that's it.

No, if he ever really did get banned, he wouldn't be posting anymore. Or setting up trades. Or PM'ing. He couldn't login AT ALL without a creating a different account. And most likely the reason for his ban would have been posted somewhere.

I still fail to see the confusion. If they're banned, they won't be contacting you through the forum or setting up any trades here, under that account. If they're still requesting trades and communicating on the forums in any way, they aren't banned. And if there's ever a question in your mind, you can always PM a mod to ask.

I'm tempted to lock this because people keep arguing in circles. We allow it. It's not hard to distinguish from a real banned account. Accept it. Move on.

The whole point was people can post, and THEN go 'Banned'. So for people that aren't familiar with why someone can show 'Donator' one day, and then show 'Banned' the next, without the whole thread being deleted or locked is where the confusion was.

The original poster PM'd me to ask about this, and I happily explained. Then this post was made anyway to question the same thing. Then myself and another admin responded (again) that it's no big deal and lishouldn'tli be confusing, but some folks still continue with posting their opinions about it, or in your case, posting as if they completely ignored the entire thread
