I seen where AOL can't be used for trading due to it using proxy servers and a freind of mine wants to get into trading but he uses cheap ass net zero lol why there is still some people using dialup i'll never know. But anyways does anyone know if net zero is good for trading or does it to use prozy servers too?.

The Help! section would have been a better bet for this question.

cool thanks for the info, I tried the search before I posted and got what seemed like a never ending list of posts that had nothing at all to do with what I wanted to know lol

I know what you mean, sometimes it takes some digging to find what you want.

Actually, That FAQ writer says to never use ANY dial-up service, which is not correct. Only services (whether dial-up or broadband) that route you through a proxy network, like AOL and reportedly some Earthlink accounts, should be a concern. I don't know if NetZero falls in that category or not, but I seem to recall them offering a "Net Accelerator" feature that is supposed to speed up browsing. This is typically done by using a proxy to strip or recompress images to reduce data bandwidth back to you, so that could very well trigger a proxy flag. But I'm not sure, and perhaps you can disable that feature and not be routed through a proxy.

Have him check the IP assigned to his modem, then go to whatismyip.com and compare it to the one reported there. If they are the same, then no proxy is in the middle. If they are different, then there's at least one proxy somewhere.

I had Grandma Moses dial-up when first starting this, and in order to make sure there weren't any difficulties, I put in a support ticket to each site, informing them that my IP address would change often due to it. They all approved it, and saw no problem, as long as none of my referrals had the same, IP, which could have been anywhere within a 600 mile radius of where I was dialing out of, which was ordinarily Dallas, and I'm 2 hours drive from there.

Here are 2 links that will help, one is the whats my IP that dmorris mentioned, and the other is a test to actually see if your friend is on a proxy, may not be 100% accurate, but seems to work well.

Hope this helps,
