[b87c1a57e1c]Chapter One The FreeiPodGuide Forums[/b87c1a57e1c][/size87c1a57e1c]

The forum you are reading this from is called the FreeiPodGuide forums. It is a forum dedicated to bringing people who wish to cooperate together and receive rewards from "Freebie Sites".

[b87c1a57e1c]1.1- History of FiPG[/b87c1a57e1c]

FreeiPodGuide.com was registered on July 22nd, 2004 by a guy named Tyler Derheim (AKA Admin[=http//forum.freeipodguide.com/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=2]Admin). Records show that the forums were created on September 11th, 2004. On its first day, the forum showed that 68 members (including Admin) registered. Of those original 68, the following statistics show

5 banned
7 moderators (with the majority of them inactive, one banned)

The site's front page has not been updated in quite some time.

(More to come, please contribute)

[b87c1a57e1c]1.2- General Rules of the Forum[/b87c1a57e1c]

The forum's moderators are quite friendly and helpful (with the exception of TSJ, who flat out sucks. Just kidding). However, please be sure to read the rules. Here is a general list of rules that all members are asked to follow on the forums

1. You are not allowed to have referral links anywhere publicly. This includes, but is not limited to Posts, signatures, banners in signatures, links to websites that you may or may not own that include referral links (i.e. congas), etc. The only referral links allowed are links to [b87c1a57e1c]FusionCash.net[/b87c1a57e1c]. No exceptions. This is a ban-able offense.

2. Flaming is not tolerated and will result in a temp-ban. Multiple offenses will result in a perma-ban.

3. Please post topics in their related forums. We don't want to hear about viagra and sex spam ads in the 123StuffForFree forum, and neither do we want to talk about Steve Nash in the Trading Post.

4. Do not post anything relating to canceling offers. Blatantly signing up for an offer just to receive credit and then canceling it hurts the company responsible for the offers, which in turn has the right to lower its commission rates to freebie sites, which in turn could see referral rates rise up. Nobody wants to see that happen.

4a. A good example of referral rates rising/offers pulling out are

Earthlink- High payout, caused many site owners to encourage users completing the offer and led to massive fraud due to the greed of both the site owners and users, causing Earthlink to pull out of the freebie scene forever.

Tickle IQ tests- Same as Earthlink

5. Racism is not tolerated. Period.

For a more detailed listing of rules, you are encouraged to read this thread

[b87c1a57e1c]2.1- History of Freebie Sites[/b87c1a57e1c]
(Let's eventually put something here)

[b87c1a57e1c]2.2- How Freebie Sites Work[/b87c1a57e1c]
When FreeiPods first came out, everybody wanted an iPod. In fact, back in 2004 it was a super easy time to get a free iPod. All you had to do was sign up, do an easy offer like eBay which required no credit card, make a one-cent purchase, and you were good to go once you got five friends who did this. Who wouldn't, when there was no credit card involved?

However everyone became skeptical and asked How does this work?

Well, it's quite simple (at least to me it is)

The freebie sites get paid for you completing an offer. In the past, freebie sites generated revenue over users not being able to complete a site. Nowadays, it is evened out so that sites make money regardless of you finishing the site or not. This practice is more common with independently-owned Freebie sites.

(More on this later)

[b4956c9ec52]Chapter Three Trading on the Forums[/b4956c9ec52][/size4956c9ec52]

[b4956c9ec52]3.1- How to use the Trading Post Rights and wrongs of the board[/b4956c9ec52]

The Trading Post can be a wonderful place. Lately it is swarming with a bunch of newbies eager to make a fast buck. However, everyone has to cooperate in following the rules.

Here are some rules you have to follow in the trading post

-NO FLAMING. If User A is offering Gmail invites for greens, don't reply back telling him that he's a dumbass or pretending to be interested. Let them offer what they want. If you want to tell them that Gmail invites aren't worth anything anymore, don't do it in a rude and obnoxious way.

-NO REFERRAL LINKS. This rule is universal throughout the entire forum. There's no exception here. Posting a thread with the subject "FreeiPods Refs needed" and the message body going "http//REFERRAL LINK.com, email me and i pay you" is going to get locked and you will most likely be ignored.

-LOWER TR GOES FIRST. If you have 0 TR and post a thread saying you need referrals and will "pay after green" or "email me for payment after green" and stuff like that, you will be corrected and told that you have to go first if the other person has higher TR than you do. This is done to cut down on fraud.

-IF BOTH PARTIES HAVE UNDER 4 TR, NONE OF YOU WILL RECEIVE CREDIT FOR YOUR TRADE. This is a growing problem these days. With the number of newbies joining daily, we must stress this Do not trade with anybody with lower than 4 TR if you also have lower than 4 TR. Not only is it a risk where you may get scammed, but you will NOT receive TR for your trade. This means that you are missing out on "trust" points.

-ONE THREAD PER THREE DAYS, ONE BUMP PER 24 HOURS. As it says, you're only allowed to create one thread in the Trading Post per three days. You are also only allowed to bump a thread you created once per 24 hours. Failure to do so will result in your threads being locked and you not being allowed to post on there for another 3 days.

[b4956c9ec52]3.2- How to initiate and start a trade[/b4956c9ec52]
Let's say that UserA has a thread saying that he'll pay $15 for Laptops.YourGiftsFree (I know I am!). UserB sees this and wants to earn $15 by doing Laptops.YourGiftsFree (You know you want to!). UserB will then send a PM to UserA (or reply in UserA's thread) saying that they are interested in doing the trade. Once UserA sees this, he/she will goto UserB's profile and click on "Initiate a trade with this user".

Upon doing so, a javascript application will pop up asking you to type out the details of the trade (in this case, it's "Laptops.YGF for $15").

Please be sure that both parties agree to the details of the trade, including but not limited to

-Waiting for approval for the other side to pay/start on the site
-Payment option/amount

When the trade is set up, the next time UserB ends up in a page of the forums there should be a pop-up box (imprinted on the forum) saying "New Trade(s)". Click on it and you are taken to the Trade Module (also accessible by clicking in the top right toolbar, under Trades).

UserB should then look over the details of the trade and, if satisfied, click on "Confirm" on the far left of the trade's row. This confirms the trade for both sites.

UserA will then either place their Paypal/payment processor details to be paid for the site or their referral link. Same goes for UserB.

Then the person with the least TR will sign up first/pay first. Upon going green/sending payment, the user with higher TR will then do their part.

Once both parties agree that the trade is complete, they click on "Request TR" from the dropdown menu in their trade's row.

Upon clicking on "Request TR", there will be a javascript box asking you to leave feedback for the user. Leave feedback, click OK, and you're good to go. Check back in a few hours/days to see if your trade has been credited.

Types of trades that can be initiated are

Referral for Referral- User A does a site for User B, and vice versa.

Referral for Cash- One user does a site for the second user for an agreed amount of cash (paid via Paypal, money order, etc). The preferred method of payment is Paypal. Checks, cash, and money orders are not encouraged but if both sides agree to it then it is possible.

Referral for Goods/Services- One user does a site, the second user gives them an item or service.

[b4956c9ec52]3.3- What if I got scammed?[/b4956c9ec52]

Sometimes a jackass comes along and ruins the fun for everybody. This is also true in the freebie scene. Somebody will come in and scam. Scamming can be any (but not limited to) the following

-Offering to do a site for money, getting paid first, then never contacting the buyer again.
-Doing a site that they have already done, knowingly, and not offering any sort of compensation when they are DQed for it.
-Offering to pay money for a site they need, getting the greens, and never paying up.

If you feel you have been scammed, first send a PM to the user you feel is scamming you asking them about the status of your trade and why they haven't responded in a while. If they do not reply back, you are then urged to PM a moderator on the forums about this issue. Then, if you cannot solve this privately via PM then your next step is to do the following

-Start a new topic about the person you feel is scamming you, ask them to respond/give you a solution
-If they do not, then either report them to the freebie site you signed up for them under (considering that you signed up for one of their sites). You can do this by finding the site representative on the forums and PMing them, opening a support ticket on the site, contacting them on AIM, or email. You should tell them the full details of the trade (including proof that they scammed you or ignored you) and ask them to either put his account on hold, put your account on hold, or remove your account from his referral list.
-If you paid them cash for the site, then you are asked to open a complaint about their account with the payment processor used (i.e. Paypal).

Typo

[quoted43260a1ad]September 11th, 2004 due to the date that Admin joined the forums September 11th, 2006.[/quoted43260a1ad]

Good idea, but won't this just be a hell of a lot of reading for newbies since this will be just more detail than the FAQ we have at the moment?

Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate the time and effort you're putting into this. If this ends up being thread-crapped or posted in too much, just finish it up and then we can move it to a new thread.

The starting date of the forums (9/11/04) is nothing more than a coincidence. Before it was FreeiPodGuide, the main site was hosted at http//www.bar-of-soap.com/ipod. It featured a shoutbox which passed for a collaborative communication medium... briefly. here's the oldest archived copy[=http//web.archive.org/web/20040814112753/65.75.157.200/~bosbos/]here's the oldest archived copy. Before that it was black-on-white and primarily text.
