As a few of you know, I fried the mobo on my laptop using an overvoltage plug and luckily for me, I'm within warrenty so Sony can fix it; but I'll be without a functional computer for at least a week. I owe one person a green as of now, but I'll try to work on that from a borrowed family computer.
If I've forgotten anything, please don't hesitate to email= email=goofygarber@gmail.comgoofygarber@gmail.com email=goofygarber@gmail.comgoofygarber@gmail.com/email ; which I can and will check as much as usual from my cell phone and public computers at my high school
Theres an offhand chance that I might be able to get it repaired at a Sony Authorized Service Center, but that won't happen until at least Wedsday.

Sorry if this causes any problems for anyone, again, don't hesitate to email.

Thanks )

Worth it, yes. I'm in a family of 7 (8 counting my mom who I see twice a week) and we all have laptops (BUT NOBODY WANTS TO SHARE WITH ME >=() And I've learnt a few things about laptops along the way with that. We've bought upwards of 15 laptops in the past 3 years, I know when I'm getting my moneys worth.

Thinkpads own all. I'd take a 3-year old T23 over just about anything Dell or HP sells right now.

The hard drive crapping out was back luck

I admit, the IBMs are good overall, though the design dosent appeal to me, nor does the price. Though if i had the cash i'd get one.

I attend Rose-Hulman... we are required to purchase a laptop our freshman year and every year the current freshmen class picks the laptop for the next year. Well, here's the point. The seniors and juniors have sony's. One of my junior friends has had to replace (and i'm not kidding) 4 hdd's, 2 motherboards, 2 monitors, 1 dvd rom drive, and 1 keyboard... that's a little over the top, but the juniors and seniors expect to replace their hard drives once every 6 months. The current freshmen have dells and they always get the blue screens of death. I'm a lucky sophomore. We have HP's. The worse we get is blowing out our speakers. Not to say that HP's are the best, but when you're at a school that purchases 600 laptops a year you can tend to see a trend.

Damn straight, Thinkpads rule. (Anyone at Gratis listening?) )

Overpriced, yeah, but I've always liked Sony laptops too. (Just not as much as TPs though)

The reason Thinkpads are so expensive is because of their build quality and customer service. I'll pay a little more upfront for a laptop from a company that pioneered the use of hard drives that freeze the platters if it detects that the laptop is falling and a company that has competent US based support.

thinkpads are the best/most reliable pc laptops out there, thats why most big companies use them. THey're rock solid. Dells are cheaply made and their customer support sucks. They tell you to reinstall windows for pretty much everything.

That being said, if you can swing it I'd def get a mac. I have a 15" powerbook and I'm never going back to a PC. They are a little more expensive but so well made and designed it's clearly worth it. They don't get slowed down by windoze and, most importantly, they're just cool.
