Hello all )

I've been reading a bunch of complaints lately, from people getting scammed.
Normally, it just seems like it's unexperienced people, but lately there has been a surge in some regulars getting scammed as well. shock

After doing close to 40 seperate trades in the past month, I have developed a few tricks to help you avoid getting scammed ever again. twisted

Here they are, in no particular order

- When deciding who to trade with, look at their past posts in the forum (link in everyone's profile).
Reading up on what they've been saying can really give you a feel for what kind of person they are.

- Always make them go yellow before you go green.
This might seem stupid, but its actually quite important

- If this person has less trades then you, make them go first!

- Find out which offer the person is going to complete for you BEFORE they sign up.
Make suggestions for which offers you have had success with.

- Once they claim to have completed the offer, ask them to forward the confirmation email from the website to you. It will have a timestamp saved from when the original email was sent. If the time stamp doesnt match up, or they can't produce the email, then you know it is probably scammish. ?

- DONT rely on screenshots. This is so easy to fake.

- Always try to stick to INSTANT offers.
Travelers advantage has been a good to me, and you should all be abusing it like a filthy whore.

I guess that's it for now.
Please feel free to reply with any of your own tips/suggestions

Cheers,

Thanks for the list, wood.

I've followed just about everyone of your suggestions and have so far (knock on wood, no pun intended) have been good on all my trades.

The biggie is the first one. Coming to this forum to check them out has been the best in preventing being scammed.

I would have traded with you, but was staying focused on getting my FreeMiniMacs.com done. Now just waiting on everyone to green.

Being too paranoid is being a pain in the ass to trade with, if the other guy has rep, LIKE ALOT, then there's no need for for things like sending the newb a yellow; in the event u never get your green or he/she backs out, and the instant credit offers? lol how does that prevent you from being scammed.

nice thread, as in it spreads the word but I'm sure its covered in a few stickies on how to keep yourself safe, primarily by reading the scammers thread.

-Only go through with trades initiated through pms on these forums. Anyone can claim to be some reputable trader from this forum on AIM, but that doesn't make it true. MAKE THEM PM YOU!

-Ask them what email address they will be using to sign up under you so you can verify that they have.

-Ask them to post in your trading thread or you post in theirs, saying that you will be trading just so that it's on record. If a problem came up, it would be a little more than just your word against theirs.. you would be able to link to the trade thread where you both publicly agreed to the trade.

Following these tips and trading with reputable people (or making noobs go first) should prevent you from ever getting scammed.

Even if the PMs are just to exchange AIM sns to carry on with the trade there, just getting that initial PM to confirm their identity is a good idea. Anyone can make up an AIM sn and claim to be anyone from here.. make them PROVE they're who they say they are here. This is how most of the scammers seem to work - they make up an AIM sn 1 or 2 letters apart from some reputable trader's forum name, then try to impersonate them.

No it does not work over and over.
What I meant was that you should make your referal sign up with it.
-It's only $1 so they cant complain about that.
-The trial period is 30 days.
- INSTANTLY CREDITS[/coloraddf17ad54]
- Easy to cancel.

Someone who tried signing up twice was not allowed. It wouldnt let him past the "enter your info" page.
