Okay... Earlier I was asking for FreeiPods green. Someone responded and said that if I was able to do a FreeDesktop green, they would respond with a green for me. So, after verifying that they were on the Good Trader List, I went ahead and did it.
After responding to my green by saying he couldn't do it in return to FreeiPods, he claimed he was able to do a FreeFlatScreens green for me. So, it's been several days and he won't respond to my emails or PMs. Of course, no green or yellow...
So, to all you new people, even though someone shows up on the Good Trader List... be careful, or you'll get screwed, too.

ideally, just being on the list with a single trade does not have any real significant meaning, it could just be a bogus/made-up trade. I would advise users to look into how active the person your trading with is on the forums, karma does help, but not really as in anyone can boost your karma. When trading take into consideration other factors besides the +1 trade Karma, or people referencing themselves as to being on the good trading list.
However since Ive taken the job of handling the trade portion of the forums with Nate and stroid, i have certain criteria i look for before i dish out +1s. I don't necessarily just jump the gun to update everyones trades.
this should prevent future mistakes on behalf of those attempting trades.
please note trades amongst new members will be ignored. meaning no + trade karma.
gl with your trades.

DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO KARMA! I never did anything wrong on this site and my karma's -5 (I think; Please boost me if you can). Yet my trading is 8. You'll also see my posts reflect my integrity. Look around, because other users have the same thing.

your out of the karma boat pod, lol yea i said karma does help but doesnt reflect much since anyone can boost it. but if you notice a new trader with negative karma, well, what more can be said.
your back at square one with karma with +1 ;)

I love you Vulcan ). Thanks for rectifying that. Also, if you find a bad trader, ban his IP.

Banning an IP is pretty pointless considering
1. they may use dialup
2. they may have a dynamic IP that changes frequently
3. they can use proxies

yea we discussed the ip thing before.
banning just prevents them from posting, part of the job is to prevent scamming by thread deleting and user banning, takes like a second to be bant. no problems there.

A way that you can make IP banning more effective is to disallow any access to this site from known proxy servers. It is not an end all, but it would significantly cut down on people coming back after a ban. There are lists available throughout the web containing all of the major proxy servers that people can use and the IP addresses that they bring with them. There are also ways to read the extra header information that is sometimes contained in a request from a proxy. You can bounce all users with this extra info.
As I said, I'm aware that there are exceptions to the methods I've outlined here, and there will NEVER be any way to totally block a user, but it may help out a bit. Although, it may be more trouble than it's worth.
I personally have never been ripped off because I adhere to certain standards that I set before I undertake in a trade with someone. If they try to stray from the pre-determined agreement in any way, I will not trade. No hard feelings, but I will not put myself at risk for the most part.
I have made exceptions to this rule such as the time I purchased a WebCertificate for Lightsky up front. I only did this because The RiskReward ratio was too great to refuse. He offered me 3 greens for the sites of my choosing for a $20 WC. I could not refuse the offer even though I stood the very real chance of getting ripped off. The potential reward was too great so I took the risk.
That being said, you need to realize that in each trade you participate in there will be a potential for you to get ripped off. You can help reduce this risk by being patient and sticking by your guns. If a newbie won't go first, but you REALLY need that last referral you need to say no to the trade anyway.
Trading is always a risk. Even if the person goes green first, there is no guarantee that they will not get disqualified when you submit for approval. You need to consider the RiskReward ratio before you do every trade. Trading with noobs raises that risk so you should make sure that your reward is worth it.
If you stay smart about these things and take some time to think about the trade before you do it, you should be able to avoid getting screwed by a bad trader. Some things to consider are the length of time a user has been a member and how many posts he/she has. Also, you should have a look at what the user says in his/her posts. If they're only asking for referrals over and over and over then they may not be the best person to trade with, however, if you see that they try to contribute something useful to the community and answer other's questions then chances are they are not going to rip you off.
You need to use your own judgment and most importantly of all is to use GOOD JUDGMENT!
