Newbie Wants to Go Green...and is Currently PM Swamped

Hi, I'm brand new at this and would like to go green for the first time. I'm not exactly sure how it all works(I'm re-reading the stickies over and over). I would like to go green and in the process learn how to do this properly.(Nobody likes bad manners, eh?)
