I'm new and have focused a lot of my time on setting up a good record-keeping system before focusing so much on growth. In doing so, I thought it might be helpful to post some things Ive found from the beginner's perspective. If nobody thinks this is useful info, please excuse me--I'm new and didn't know you already knew!
Be careful to note
1) Whether the acceptible method of payment is credit, debit card or both. I don't know about you, but I won't do credit card-only offers. Hey, they've got their terms, I've got mine.
2) Terms of obligation are same or acceptible for both methods of payment.
3) Some "FREE" trials that make no immediate debit upon sign-up may include your consent for them to place a "reservation-hold" on your funds for the full monthly installment of regular membership. This will hold up that amount until you cancel, which is just like having paid for it, since you can't use your money until it is released. AVOID THESE OFFERS LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!
4) If your call is placed in a "hold loop" for the next customer service rep, WAIT, DON'T HANG UP, IT WILL ONLY INCREASE YOUR WAIT TIME IF YOU TRY TO CALL BACK. Make sure you use a house line and not your cellular. Unless your wait time is more than 15 -20 min, it's worth it to wait, especially if you are only one day away from the trial expiration date (which is why it's best to set your cancel date 3-5 business days prior to the expiration date).
5) It is imperative to meticulously track your offers so that you may cancel unwanted trial subscriptions on time. Failure to do so could cost you money...BIG money!
6) When CANCELING an offer you will sometimes be offered an extension trial for an additional 30 days at no cost. This is especially likely where the trial was only 7 - 10 days. Unless you truly intend to keep the subscription, DO NOT ACCEPT THE EXTENSION...You're mainly in this to make money. Extending a trial will only give you more cancellations to track and complicate your cancellation schedule. I highly recommend avoiding any activity that does not BRING YOU MONEY or its equivalent.
7) Remember, you MAKE MONEY by signing-up for trials...YOU KEEP IT by cancelling them on time!
8) HERE'S A GREAT TIP!...Sometimes you can miss noting the cancellation phone number. Sometimes, it's not included on the same page (at the bottom) as the offer, in which case you can usually get it by clicking on the "Terms & Conditions" link. If you click "Submit" without getting it, you often cannot return to the signup page. The next place you will see it is in your membership confirmation email but, believe me, that can get lost too. Either way, it can be a cumbersome task searching, cutting and pasting to keep it all handy in one place.
Well, here's hope
Today I discovered something that may be of help to you. I was checking my VISA transaction postings and, lo and behold, there were the TOLL-FREE CANCELLATION numbers! So all I had to do was copy/paste them into a column on my spreadsheet record and, VOILA!, all in one stroke. You may not appreciate this until you can't find that all important 800 cancellation number, but "a word to the wise is sufficient".
