If he wants to offer Gmail invites then let him. Incase you guys haven't noticed, there's a rule about thread-crapping.
If you don't have something useful to say, then keep your fingers off the keys. If you still want to say something, then go for it, but make sure you read the rules when you get back from your 14 day vacation.

It's the fact that Gmail invites can be had for Free, whereas it will cost people money if they sign up for you and complete an offer.
People prefer to be paid and make a profit, as opposed to doing a site and paying everything out of pocket.
