If an iRiver were better, than why wouldn't people be making as much of a deal out of it as they are for the iPod?

ipod is already well known and has a good reputation. a lot of people have never even heard of an iriver. uneducated people tend to simply repeat what they hear without thinking for themselves.

i river might be a better product but if your looking to resale id go with the ipod its got a much better selling ability because everyone (almost everyone) knows what an ipod is but they dont know what an iriver is

but, u can take a iriver and take it to best buy for store credit, it costs $329.00 so im getting an iriver from that 4free site and exchanging it for either a psp when it comes out or some portable video recorder

Although, I'm gonna say the ipod, I do like the fact that the iRiver had the color screen and can play ogg's, mp3's, asf's, and wma's

see products have these little things called serial numbers on them and if you try and take something back that you didnt get from that store and they check to see if that serial number was in their stock and they find out that its not then your screwed i think

has anyone been able to confirm if they have taken a product they got for free back ?

Claim it was a b-day gift from grandma' and u dont have a receipt..stores ALWAYS take back gifts. Sometimes if its not even an item they stock. My Aunt had JcPenny refund her a few hunded dollars for a set of tires she had once. They called a local tire shop and gave her the amount that the tire shop said they retailed for.

on the iRiver H320 and H340 yes, as they have color LCD's.

iPod... with a doubt. When you're dealing with so many files, you need a quick way to get through that... iPod and only iPod has that.

Plus iPod is a "coolness" thing... who says "Man, I want an iRiver"? Nobody. Everyone wants an "iPod."

The iriver is better but wasent BETA and VHS destroyed it. The iPod has the coolness factor but if your a modest person the iriver is better.

Supposedly the iRiver feels like a brick, compared to the iPod. But in general, the overall features make it seem better.

I would suggest going to an electronics store and feeling each in your hands so you can judge for yourself.

Probably the best way to make a decision that would leave you happy, and with no one to blame but yourself if you make the wrong one.

BTW I still have my BetaMax player, it still works perfectly, and I have Star Wars Episode IV for it. Plays brilliantly. VHS is the sux.

iRiver H320 has soo many features like vioce rocrding, color LCD, nice small lcd even on the remote and playes wma,ogg and mp3 and the battery life in this is awesome 10+ hours

for ipod if you need color lcd that like 100$ more and if you need voice recording thats like 30$ more and the battery life is teh suck! it claims 8 hours but i heard it charges out in 6-7hours . the only advantage i see is the ipod OS and the ACC format which sounds really nice

so which is better.. my guess is iRiver H320 compared to ipod 20GB

I tried taking my 20gb apple iPod to a few differenent places

1. Bestbuy - no dice
2. CompUSA - took it back - griped about it - very hard to do (my roomate did it with his)
3. Target - would take it back for store credit - only had the 3rd generation 20gb's (note you can only do 3 per year; they track your ID)
4. Walmart - no iPods
5. Office Depot - JACKPOT! No issues, no questions. Exchanged apple 20gb for an HP 40gb (note you can only do 3 per year; they track your ID)

And apple claims 12 hours for the iPod, not 8. I think the battery life is about the same in the two. The iRiver does have that "coolness" appeal, but I think the iPod beats it in simplicity. The iRiver menus are a little laggy/slow, it is irritating. If you need a color display, go for the iRiver or a more pricey PVP so you can at least watch movies. I prefer the iPod.

Thanks for doing the research, Taylor...
How much did you have to come out of pocket with for the transaction?

Office Depot $294 store credit (tax not calculated), new iPod was $399.99
So the difference here was 105.99 + 7% tax = $112.35 out of pocket.

I think compusa gave $299 store credit.

I was a little scared at office depot because they don't even stock apple iPods (in Gainesville, anyway) but it scanned and they took it back anyway. I was really happy.

Yeah...that's cool and all but I think what everyone is thinking is

You sounded like you had two or 3 stores that would take it but then you finally say that the last one would.....

What the hell did you tell the other stores that would take it?
(assuming that you didn't have 3 ipods)
lol ?

I don't think they carry iRivers.
Target didn't have 4th gen iPods.
CompUSA my friend used.
Office Depot was the only place I found that would take it back with 4th gen 40gb iPods.
