I know everybody here likes to play Poker, so I am thinking we should create a FIPG Poker Tournament Texas holdem. Ten Dollars buy in to get into the tournament and depending on how many people we have split the pot like we did for March Madness. What you guys think?

Please lets not go off-topic with blackjack. I am thinking in order to get in you have to pay by paypal who ever is playing 10.25 ( to cover the fees), so people don't have to worry and figure out how to deposit the money.

i'm in, and for fees, i think it is either $10.61 or $10.62...
Sounds like fun, but a lot of the sites such as PartyPoker banned US members so I think something like FullTiltPoker and PokerStars would be ok.
PokerStars has the best tournament structure and you can make your own tournaments easily, so I think that would be best.

Bullseye, make a list in the first thread of who is in. Also you guys want the fee to be 10? Or 15?20? Vote! Also we need a place to look for to make our own table so we can play. Yahoo isnt that great, we can make a private table, but we cant set the rules, the blinds are always 1/2 I believe.

Pokerstars, I've played at almost all the poker rooms and Pokerstars is the best for tournaments bar none. justinag06 can vouch for this I'm sure.

i checked into something similar for a4f last year.
i'm guessing setting up a real money tourney on stars would also require enough FPPs, then there is the issue of everyone getting their accounts funded.

I emailed support and they say that you need to have earned 2000 FPPs in their lifetime, I dont have enough but if anyone else has enough we could do it there.
Otherwise we have to find somewhere else that allows you to host tourneys without this prerequisite.

We want to do a tournament in which we play for no real money (so everyone will not have to add an account and a credit card etc.) But the winner of that tournament will have the paypal from everybody sent to them. If thats okay with everybody

Someone could collect the funds via paypal, deposit the necessary amount by whatever means, and do the necessary account transfers to all of the contributing players.
May sound complicated, but it really shouldn't be that bad.

yea, the only thing is that through epassporte it is $5 per 95 you deposit, and say they needed to deposit $115, it would cost $125 though epassporte... so thats more money on top, plus the paypal fees... so the $10 tourny would turn into the $10+1 fron stars, then probably another $2 worth of fees at least, so its gonna be a $13 tourny minimum, for $10 tourny payouts, i'm still up for it, just want everone to know whats going on!

the most important thing is to come up with a site to play on. if you are able to create a private tourney on stars, i think we should say 'stars it is' and stick to it.
next we should all put something in our sigs directing them to this thread and give those who are interested a week/week and a half to create an account on pokerstars (if they don't already have one). this will also give those of us who do have accounts on stars time to fund our accounts (there are ways, i just need to research them).
i'd be willing to overfund my account and then sell buy-ins for paypal.
as for a day/time, i'd suggest sunday late afternoon/early evening eastern time. maybe try and shoot for 07/22 or 07/29.

Please no more "i'm in" posts until we find someone who can set up a private tourney, that's the reason why this thread has gone on for so long without an actual announcement.
I read on 2plus2 that a private play money tourney could be set up on pokerroom...does anyone have an account there and can confirm/deny this? Personally, I would prefer Pokerstars but if nobody can create a tourney there, i'd go with pokerroom (where people would have to pay $X before they would get the tourney password).

We should make the private tourney on PokerStars. Make it a private Freeroll & have all the people send $10+fees to guy setting it up who would send out the tourney pw to all who paid. There would be no funding needed on 'stars since it is a freeroll.
However, we would need someone with 2000 FPP to do it - I only have 1000.... So I am out (unless my sheer chance I can fund my account and go on a massive winning streak)
Also, accounts can be funded via E-Passporte, (Certain) Visa/Mastercard Giftcards (like Gift2Go Visa's).

i think Sunday the 22nd at 6p central (7p eastern) is fine.
it's the end of the weekend and people will/should be winding down.
i don't think it should be set up for the vote. you are the one putting this together, so it should be what's most convenient for you.
i tried purchasing a visa debit card which i read could deposit directly into stars or use with epassporte, but i purchased it with my credit union visa card and they are questioning the purchase, so i'm in a bit of limbo. i'm hoping it's resolved today.
i also purchased a gift2go card online yesterday thinking i would get a virtual number, which i could use with epassporte. but i guess i'm going to get a real card in the mail and there's no telling when that will arrive.
i'll try a couple of alternatives today/this weekend. as soon as i find something that works, i'll pass word along.

alright, i contacted pokerstars and asked if i could set up a tourny for the 22nd, that is a freeplay 100+9, that would make things easy, just will need people to send the paypal for the password, it will be like $10.61 for me to receive the money, and then we will payout the people in the cash to the correct percentages
I will verify that we got it set up and i will post the rest of the details!

We have a $5.50 Tourny.
It had to be a real money tournament through pokerstars, so i set it up as a $5.50 through pokerstars, and then will need everyone to send another 4.81 through paypal to get the password.
How I think it should be done...
Payout Structure i would like to see
# of entries | 1-15 | 16-30 | 31-50
1st Place | 50.00% | 40.00% | 30.00%
2nd Place | 30.00% | 24.00% | 20.00%
3rd Place | 20.00% | 16.00% | 12.00%
4th Place | 0% | 11.50% | 10.00%
5th Place | 0% | 8.50% | 8.00%
6th Place | 0% | 0% | 6.50%
7th Place | 0% | 0% | 5.50%
8th Place | 0% | 0% | 4.50%
9th Place | 0% | 0% | 3.50%
It is a little bit more spread out than pokerstars regular structure, but i like to see more than 3 people get paid if there are 27 people in it... this is just my suggestion, we can do it however the general public wants Very Happy
So there would be $5 per person in the pot from pokerstars, and here are there payouts-- http//www.pokerstars.com/poker/tournaments/rules/prize-structure/
So a little over 1/2 of the pot will automatically be paid, and then we can finish it out through paypal to the others we want to pay.
This is only a suggestion, we could also just make it a 10+1 through pokerstars, but that is adding an extra 20 cents to everyone's payment, and will make it that much harder to get everyone that wants in the extra $ on pokerstars.
So, I have $80 online right now, so I could send a little bit to people for paypal.
If anyone would like to sign up for the first time on pokerstars please let me know and i will have you refer me, if you play enough points to get me the bonus, i'll send you $25 of it D

i was able to purchase a gift2go card (yellow from Walgreens) and fund epassporte with it. i then moved the epassporte over to pokerstars.
the $50 card was $54.95
I was only able to deposit $48 into epassporte because of the small pending charge that was made to verify the card
there was also a $5 epassporte fee
the amount deposited was $43.....bah
i'm trying to find an easier (cheaper) way

For those who have Pokerstars and epassporte accounts, there is a way to fund your account using a pay2go card (it is too late to buy one online).
If you do not have a epassporte account, it is simple to set up.

Ok, it is set up for teh 29th now, at 1800 ET
It is 5.50 entry on pokerstars, and will cost another $4.81 through paypal to get in.
Reason's for making it both paypal and pokerstars
1. So we can do the payouts differently than how pokerstars does it, i personally don't like that it would be most likely top 3 that got paid.
2. You have to pay the paypal to get the password into the tournament.
3. To keep a good count on the tournament and know who everyone in the tournament is.
4. To make it less stressfull for people to get the correct amount of money on pokerstars.
Also, if you would like to pay the extra $4.50 paypal in pokerstars money instead that would also be fine and would save you the 31cents in paypal fees.

I'm bumping this post.
I'm not sure how many people have PM'd TJ about the tourney, hopefully we can get an update today.
I have $175 in my PS account, I can make $5.50 transfers in exchange for PayPal (do not ask for more). You will need to still pay the remaining PayPal amount to TJ.

anyone have any money on pokerstars or FTP that they would be willing to send for paypal? I have 113 on paypal, and want to switch it to a poker site without waiting for a check from paypal...

Transfer the PP to your bank account, then use eCheck to fund PokerStars? Assuming you have a bank account, of course...

if you woulda asked a week ago i woulda but i cashed out/lost the rest i had... u could try getting the paypal debit card and use that.. ive used mine before for poker

paypal debit card won't work for me, ever, like even at stores and stuff, so that won't work... My main problem was my credit card wouldn't get the pending charges form epassporte, so I couldn't verify it, but I called them and asked them to just take that card off of the verification. I then used my debit card and put money on epassporte and then am having my paypal check sent...
Long process, but hopefully I can make some money and pay for it!

it sucks that it has to be such a long-ass process. what i did last time is buy a yellow (i forgot the brand) prepaid card from walgreens, then use to that to fund epassporte, then deposited into pokerstars. if you look back through this thread, you can see how much it cost in premiums and fees and how much i was eventually into deposit into pokerstars.

I probably used the debit card 3 to 4 months ago for a poker site. Some gambling sites get denied by paypal debit and some do not.
And yes, a paypal poker tourney would be sweet but I don't know if anybody wants to organize it.... how bout we all just meet at my place Sunday night to play? wink

Anyway, it appears we never got this going? I'd be interested in playing if it could be done.
I signed up for PokerStars in December for a $50 bonus (500 FPP) but then decided I didn't have the time (or more precisely the inclination) to play enough to clear the bonus in six months before it expired in June. Then about a month or so ago I started playing small stakes cash games and then sit-n-go's and am up to over 350 FPP now, so I'm scrambling to make my 500 in the next 3 weeks or so. I've finished in the money (a few times 1st and 2nd) more often than not lately, and really prefer tournament play to the ring games.
None of my CC's or debit cards work, but I've been funding my PS account with eCheck. Deposits and cashouts are free and easy for US players, you just need a bank account. $25 minimum deposit transfer, and there are some restrictions on the number of deposits you can make in a short period (24-48 hours I think) until your first deposit clears the bank. And you get credit immediately, you don't have to wait for the deposit to clear (unless you have a history of "bouncing" transfers).

ok, now that i have that out of my system...
i'm sure i've said this earlier in the thread, if you (or whoever earns enough FPP points) would like to host the tourney - go for it. say "this is when the tourney is going to be" and whoever joins up joins up. because a TON of people are going to say, "i'm in" or "i can do it this day, but not this day".
thanks for the heads up on echeck. i signed up for a checking account over at compass bank and may give it a shot with that account instead of through my main credit union.

I'd love to host the tourny, friday, saturday, or sunday evenings are best for me, sunday the very best...
The main reason I don't just say here is the day, anyone who wants to play be there, and that is so we can have different payouts, it is whatever everyone else wants to do though, top 3 will get paid at the most if we leave it how stars does it...
