09-05-2008 18:18:41

I'm bumping this for three reasons

One I wanted to talk about baseball, and didn't need to start a new thread cuz of the handy-dandy search feature D

Two I want to vent about Julio "Piece of shit, butterfingers, I can't make a play if my glove was covered in duct tape" Lugo. Lugo, If you are seeing this, you should kill yourself immediately. You are terrible, you can't field, you can't throw, you can't hit and yet you're making $9 million dollars this year. There was this old man that came into my shop today who had a hook for a hand. HE could play better than you. Do me a favor. Fill a box with knives. Get in it. Kick yourself down the stairs. I hate you. The team has 21 errors. You have 11 of them. Buh bye now.

Three I was hoping to get people involved in a detailed baseball discussion haha, is this possible? Is anyone diehard for any team at all? Let's talk about it, I love it D --Unless your name is Julio Lugo, you can GTFO--

TravMan162

09-05-2008 18:29:53

You know what?

I'm not done venting.

Lugo. The team would literally be better off if you were removed from the game entirely, but instead of hiring a replacement, they made Pedroia, you know, the second baseman who makes every play that he should and most of the plays he shouldn't? You know, that guy? Yeah, we would be better off if he moved 45 ft to the left, played second base actually ON the bag and fielded balls hit to the second base AND shortstop position.

No, seriously. We would be better off if he batted in front of himself in the lineup. We would be better off if when he was on base, and he was up to bat, they tried the first ever One Man Hit And Run Play in which Pedroia stole second while simultaneously swinging at the first pitch he saw.

Really. Screw you. Pedroia can pinch run for himself in the ninth. He can drive himself in when he's on base. Playing two positions at once he wouldn't make half the errors you do because You sir, are an idiot. It would hurt us less to have no person playing your position than to have you stay. Go back to A ball. Go back to Tee Ball. Just get the hell out of here.

Okay, I'm done now, seriously D

i know they're up, but it doesn't take away from the fact that lugo has never been good, still is not good, and will never be good. He doesn't earn his money and he's cost us too many runs already this season alone. He's been with the Sox for a year and a month and I despise him.

Anywho, hahaha, I love how you anguish over eight years w/o a title D that's awesome D D D

Yanks have a rough team this year. It's not looking good for them and the Rocket isn't going to be making any dramatic comebacks this year to dig them out of a hole

TravMan162

they should have beat arizona in 01 and florida in 03, things have been going progressively worse since then.

baseball has sucked as a whole since the choads won in 04.

i'm glad i can get the mlb extra innings package through my cable now (2nd year in a row). it gives me something to watch when there's nothing on tv during the summer and it's 100+ degrees outside. it's worth the $160.

-dan

TravMan162

09-05-2008 19:24:53

yeah definitely. they gave us the first week of baseball season free this year on extra innings and it was awesome. Get home from work and watch some D-backs or Mariners. I don't like them, but I do love baseball. If I had a buck sixty to drop I'd be all over that D

Time out.

Did you call me caterpillar face AND call the Sox a bunch of choads???

DRay9911

09-05-2008 19:28:01

the diamondbacks are good to watch, a ton of good players on that team. another team i like watching is the marlins.

lugo was forced out at 2nd on ellsbury's fielder's choice, he didn't steal 2nd. ellsbury stole 2nd and i hope he's ok, because i need him to steal a lot of bases this year and score a lot of runs.

i didn't call you caterpillar face.

Good call on the play Dan, I was looking at the comp, and I looked up and saw him diving in like a maniac, I figured it was a steal attempt.

Box, how do you feel about the Jacoby/Coco platoon they've got going on? I used to say get rid of Coco, but I love what the team is doing right now. No offense, but I take it you haven't seen much baseball then. It was a good catch, but not even close to "the most amazing ever". Kinda hard not to double the runner off there too when he's out by 10 feet. The high five is just showboatin, if I was pitching he'd take one in the ribs his next AB. Just remember the thing that matters, Boston 3 Baltimore 6.

DRay9911

-dan

TravMan162

15-05-2008 02:26:40

hahahaha, almond for a brain. NICE. Obv, I know that was not the most amazing catch ever, I just thought it was cool. It added a silver lining to the fact that the Sox are probably never going to win a game again.

I don't know if I've said this already, but in 2005 when the Sox had Renteria, I predicted that in 2007 the DRays would be contenders. Son of a bitch if I wasn't one year off haha. They are nasty. I know you're not supposed to like anyone in your division, but why do I like them so much???

That was the dumbest move the Sox could have made. Manny plays right field w/ the monster better than anyone else will, and only maybe ARod and Cabrerra can match his ability to hit. Sorry if the world champs miss the playoffs and the rays and yanks get in. I bet they lose at least 3 to 5 games due to Jason Bay playing the monster.

TravMan162

31-07-2008 16:46:55

manny plays left field, for one, and for two, the monster is overstated. seriously. it shortens left field and if you have a slight knowledge of geometry, a ball of the wall doesn't take a genius to play.

plus Bay has a cannon for an arm, so there's that.

The triangle on the other hand, is the hard position to try to play at Fenway. Left field? Come on now.

Is Bay's long term bat going to be as effective as Manny's? Hell no. But is Bay going to run out ground balls, play with a "hurting knee" and be good to have in the clubhouse? Hell yes.

I said it before they traded him, and I'll say it again the Red Sox will not win the AL East. The Yankees are coming on strong now, when it counts, and I think they will be dangerous in late August/early September.

And the Cubs just did absolute work on the Brewers. 4.5 up on the Cardinals and 5 up on the Brewers.

TravMan162

31-07-2008 18:52:46

Well not only are you being a little hasty on counting out the Sox, but let's not forget about the Rays either. Granted, age and lack of experience may play a huge role down the stretch, but until they give us some reason to believe they aren't serious, you, at the very least, can't count them out.

I'm looking at today like '04. Addition by subtraction. There was a cancer in the clubhouse before the deadline, he got traded for people who, at that time, weren't nearly as highly regarded, but yet they went on a massive run, almost took the east, and won the whole thing. Look for a similar thing to happen now.

Brew Crew I believe is going to make a run. They made the best deadline acquisition because they moved early to accommodate the fans. They think they can make a run at it, and there's no reason to think they won't. The cubs started off strong, but history is probably going to repeat itself. They didn't do anything to improve, they're playing bad right now, and despite what they did tonight, they still have three against Milwaukee.

It's going to be an interesting two months in both of our divisions for sure P

You're right..left field...I knew what I meant ;) , but there is no way that this pays off. So Manny didn't run out a ground ball he was easily out on. Hate to tell you but a lot of guys don't run them out like they should.

All of this cancer talk is BS. Manny still showed up and put up numbers day in and day out even with the off the field drama. I definitely wouldn't count on them winning the AL East, and I find it hard to believe they'll even take the Wild Card after watching them get handled by the Angels.

[quote5753a44383="ILoveToys"] Manny still showed up and put up numbers day in and day out even with the off the field drama. .[/quote5753a44383]

I don't understand why people keep saying this. Please refer to exhibit A.

The stats Line

Manny .299 avg 20 HR, 68 r.b.i. 66 runs

Bay .282 avg, 22 HR, 64 r.b.i. 72 runs

now when you adjust it from N.L. to A.L. things might change, but keep in mind he's been putting up these numbers for the worst team in history. Put him in a pennant race on a high market team and who knows what he can do. But manny is on the decline, and Jason Bay is hitting the peak of his career.

And btw, mark my words, Manny is looking for a 100 million 4 year contract next year. The Yanks love overpaying for washed up, has-beens and Manny has to spite the Sox now. Say hello to your 2009 left fielder.

[quote1eb9ce2224="tylerc"]I don't necessarily think the move was bad long-term for the Red Sox, but it's going to hurt their playoff chances this season.[/quote1eb9ce2224]

See, people that aren't from around here don't really understand this trade. If you are going strictly on paper, you're right, Bay is not Manny. But this wasn't about an upgrade. You say it hurt their playoff chances this season, but that is assuming that Manny was not Manny, and just came out, played to his potential every single day and did not cause any problems for the rest of the season.

That wasn't the case. Not only was Manny not playing to his potential, faking injuries to get out of games, telling his teammates that he was thinking of not playing till the Kansas City series and all this other horse shit, but he was becoming a complete catastrophe in the clubhouse and the organization in general.

Just off the top of my head, I know he bitch slapped Youkilis, pushed his 65 year old traveling secretary to the ground, told red sox management that he didn't think they were being straight up with him, sat out the first game in the biggest series of the season, took a three pitch strikeout looking with the game on the line in a HUGE game to spite the Sox for fining him, and topped it all off by saying that the Red Sox did not deserve a player like him.

His teammates stopped backing him and they lost focus. They lost it to the point where they went to Terry and went to Theo and said, for the good of the team, he needs to be traded. So no, Bay is not the hitter Manny is, but this is about morale and a change that needed to be made. He's not hurting their play off chances and I next to guarantee they go on some sort of tear in August. You heard it here first folks.

I appreciate what the sox have done over the past few years. They've given us some exciting comeback wins and established themselves as a force that can compete with the yanks.

I don't have some sort of elitist attitude where I believe that because they aren't in the series all baseball is shit. The sox got beat by a better team and I think the world series has two very worthy contenders in it this year.

What possible reason could they have for rooting for the Red Sox living in Indiana, knowing that they have spent NO time of their life in Massachusetts or anywhere near that area? Funny how you see everyone wearing Boston hats once they make the playoffs/into the ALCS, but they're nowhere to be found once they get eliminated.

And to the Colts comment, I never got around to adding it in here, nor did I add IU's football record, even though both teams are playing quite shitty this year. I'll add it if it makes you feel any better.

Haha, Cashman once again proves that he is an idiot. God what are they doing? 7 years/160 mil for a pitcher that is clearly going to break down in 2 years max. I don't care what anyone says, the circuit Milwaukee put him through last season combined with his 300 pound frame is going to lead to break down.

Not only that, but the Sox own Sabatico. That should have been a contributing factor in this. That is a dumb as dirt contract. They would have been better off going after Peavy and Burnett at reasonable deals. Yes, Burnett is hurt a lot, but you still have two good pitchers, if not one of them being great, and you have really bolstered your rotation.

What now? Pettitte won't be back, in fact he's talking to the Sox for some reason, and who else do they have? Wang? Come on Cashman, you gotta do better than that.

DRay9911

i'm not too happy about cc but they are desperate. ny is never going to get peavy, he has a no-trade and doesn't want to pitch there. they will get 2 of sheets, lowe, burnett which isn't saying much because they are damaged goods. pettitte will be back for one final season and then he will retire. they may end up getting teixeira too. they are going to spend like crazy thanks to the new stadium.

DRay9911

24-12-2008 06:19:23

there won't be a salary cap next year or any time soon, there's no way the players union would allow it.

The math is very fuzzy because even though they signed tex, cc and burnett...but won't have mussina (20M), pettitte (16M), abreau & giambi (34M combined). but they bought out giambi for $5M and pavano (can't remember the numbers for that). and they still may resign pettitte for 1 year. then there are arbitration raises for a few players (nady is one of them).

according to this article, the payroll could be less than $200M even with manny http//www.nydailynews.com/blogs/touchingbase/2008/12/yanks-could-get-manny-and-stil.html

it may be one of those deals where the final 2009 salary won't be determined until after the season when it takes any trades into account.
