I have it on my computer. It's a very small but useful program that puts an icon in your system tray and lets you know if any of your status has changed! It will check every 5 minutes and alert you. Very cool!

No, it still works even if you've already ordered . It will alert you when you've shipped.

It would be nice if there's a program that could monitor all the sites.

... and wasn't as annoying.

I'll never use podwatch again because a previous version stole credit card information as well as FIP account information.

Not worth the risk after programmers have gone bad before.

I never heard of any malicious use of the information, but the fact that they had/have it is unnerving and makes me think its not worth the risk.

Which part exactly is "annoying"?

It doesn't pop up any windows, or take focus from anything. The worse it does is "flash" the icon...

I'm also working on getting the other services working in it. There is already a thread on my messageboard about the other services, and what I plan to do at http//forums.drakier.com/index.php?c=3

There is a Features Request forum which is where you can post things like this, and I will try to fix or implement the changes if I can, and if they would be of value to other users.

Currently, the reason that ICFreePod doesn't do the other accounts is because 1) I don't have an account with those services (yet) and 2) I've been in contact with Gratis about a WebService that I want to use instead of the crappy HTML Parsing. It will not only be faster overall, but will be less load for Gratis as well. If I cannot get the WebService working like I need to (meaning if gratis doesn't email me the site soon) then I will sign up for the other services and attempt to make ICFreePod work using HTML parsing with those as well.

As I said.. I'm very open for suggestions and feature requests. If you think it sucks or is lame, then please tell me that, but also PLEASE try to tell me why and be objective. I can take criticism, but constructive criticism is a lot better than just telling me it is annoying.

WTF are you talking about? How does podwatch steal your credit card info? podwatch doesn't look at any info that even contains your CC information. And your FIP account information? How was that stolen and how did you find out it was stolen?

You really do have to practice some caution when using a program like this, as some other users have stated. It would not be hard to change your password/shipping address in a split second with one of these apps.

You may want to have a .NETurl==http://=http:///url saavy friend browse the app in .NETurl==http://=http:///url Reflector ( im almost certain both are made with vb.net ). PodWatch looked alright, although i havent checked it out since it was first made, and I prefer it anyway since it uses cookies to login to your status, not an encrypted password saved to your machine. Either way, just be safe )

Drakier I like your app because it uses more intelligent parsing ( PodWatch just counts the status images for referrals ), but I would seriously consider using cookies to login to the site. Nearly anything that can be encrypted can be just as easily decrypted.

I wrote the cookie locating and parsing code for the old PodWatch beta, and I also read the source code. Personally, I have no problem running it. There is no communication or storage other than that absolutely necessary to perform its function. It doesn't steal your information or transmit any data to any third parties. You can take my word for it or not; I don't care.

Well, I can tell you that the program functions are safe and are being programed by someone who has his offers complete.

If you want to chat about the program you can visit #podwatch on chat channel and talk to the developer.

the reason I DON'T do cookies is because not everyone likes saving the cookies on the machine (such as me) and cookies can be stolen more easily than attempting to decrypt a password.

and although I know its not 100% hacker proof, it will keep away most wannabes and people who have trojans or other things on your machine with filesystem access.

That was one of my original reasons for writing ICFreePod is I wanted somethign that would really Log In to the site.. not just attempt to read a cookie... with PodWatch, if the cookie is gone or invalid, it no longer works. The only way ICFreePod would stop working for logins is if you changed your password, or the site went down.

Edit also.. ICFreePod was done in C#.

Fugger

14-09-2004 12:18:01

Well, that was also the old version that read cookies.

The new version won't do that cookie crap anymore. You'll also be able to track a lot more with the new version when it releases.
