I really wanted to get the 40gb for the accessories but they are now offering the 60gb minus the extras. Anybody have any ideas or opinions one way or the other?

Yeah. Get the 60GB, return it to the Apple store. Get a credit. Go online, spend $30 at the Apple Store and get the old 60GB with accessories. OR spend nothing, get the old 40GB iPod from Apple.com, and get $80 worth of accessories ).

SCRATCH THAT! http//www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=90140736&loc=101 There. Get cash for your old one, return it, then buy the old 60GB with accessories....

I have the old 40GB with all the accessories and i would recomend that but if your already STV on photo i think you will get the 40GB but i could be wrong. Either way get the old ipod package with the accessories for example i got the old 40gb and it came with a dock and carrying case the carrying case at the apple store sells for $39.99 alone.

Yeah, Buy.com and costco.com (lifetime warranty with Costco) have had the old 40GB & 60GB on sale for $325 and $425 respectively. I was going to get the 40GB $300 from Costco but they sold out so I got the older 60GB for about $418 shipped. Has ALL the accessories, etc. So, I just submitted my order with Gratis for the new 60GB which I'll sell as sealed and should be about even or so after PayPal/ebay fees if I go that route.

doesn't look like Costco has anymore left though...

Just found the old 60GB at B&H (reputable camera dealer) for $429 shipped

B&H looks like they also have one of the better deals on the old 40GB (now that Buy.com is no longer offering it for $325 and Costco is sold out of the $300 ones) - $359 shipped

Im surpised they upped it to 60. I think smarter thing for gratis to do, would have been do go to the 30. But hey, if they wanna spend more money, lets let em go right ahead!

They did the smart thing. It would be pretty unfair to require 10 referrals for something that costs around $300...

Yeah, they're still doing better than the original 40GB (which was $499 MSRP). 10 referrals equates to roughly a $500 item, so for the $449 retail of the new 60GB, plus I'm sure they now get some discount ordering direct from Apple, they're doing fine.

I just called the apple store in my area and they told me they would check the serial number to see if the ipod was purchased at their store...is that a bluff or what? Has anyone returned an ipod from gratis to the store yet?
