Look at pics of the two...the 4G has the click wheel like on the iPod Mini, while the 3G has the touch wheel and four touch buttons above the wheel. The 4G is slightly thinner and is advertised to have 12hrs battery life, while the 3G was advertised to have only 8hrs life. The 4G also has some added features...check out Apple's official site at www.ipod.com to learn more about what is specifically new on the 4G iPod.
