iPod battery life sucks!
For real. So glad I didn't pay for this!
It gets so annoying after a while

You already got yours right? How long does it last for you? I got mine last week and the battery life is only around 4 hours, I might send it in to be replaced.

? I have a 3G and mine lasts for a good 8 hours, the 4Gs should last for 12 hours. if thats too little for you, you have pretty big expectations.

That's bizarre...I used my iPod for a week and it lasted the entire week with several hours' use a day and minimal charging (e.g. only charging when I was actually transferring music). You may want to look into getting it replaced by Apple or HP.
Also make sure you're not killing the battery with your playing habits - higher bitrate music will decrease battery life, as will excessive use of the backlight and shuffling the entire music collection - that makes the HDD spin every time it plays a new song, which is going to seriously hurt battery life.
Try using it and play using playlists - either ones you make yourself or select one artist, one genre, one album, etc. Using a playlist like that will queue several songs in the iPod's RAM, as opposed to finding each song and pulling it off the hard drive. Playing through all your songs at once OR using shuffle is going to make a big difference.

I have to recharge mine at least once a day, sometimes even twice, which isnt good at all considering the battery lasts only 500 charges. I also rarely use the backlight, and I just play songs in order. I'm planning on calling Hp tomorrow. They wont give me any trouble considering it was purchased by gratis and not me will they?

Of course not - that would be like them giving you crap because your grandmother bought it for you for your birthday and you have no receipt.

Haha, true. I just hope they dont transfer me to some person in India or something when I call. But maybe thats just dell....

And even then it's only Dell HOME - all their small business support is US. You just have to know what numbers to call and what you're doing. )
I doubt you're going to get an American with HP unless you try their small business line. I'm sure their home support is outsourced, like Compaq's.
here's some info on the ipod battery, i suppose it'd be the same for the hpod

I wonder if Gratis is distributing refurbished iPods in new packaging.

They can't be sending out refurbished hps atleast, it just came out a couple weeks ago, so they are no broken ones to be refurbished yet. I dunno about the apples though.

Dude.. use some sense before you spew out such cr@p !
Gratis just places an order with eCost who in turn ship it out to you. It is shrink wrapped ! Neither eCost nor Gratis open your ipod box !
Now, if you are going to say that Apple themselves are sending refurb iPods in new packaging, you have gotta a LOT more things to worry about than this wink
Sorry, if I came across as being rude, but this kinda useless insinuation is just a waste of time for everybody !
Just get your lill pod and use it and sit back n relax.. It's free for Gods sake !

Hey, I'm not gonna rip @ 128k, that's gonna sound like crap.
Battery replacement on this doesn't look very hard, so I say enjoy it to the max. ;)

1. 128K ACC format doesn't sound like crap... it sounds fine in something like an iPod. If you're using MP3, well that's your own fault. ACC compresses better with better sound.
2. If you're not getting good charges with your battery, CONTACT THE DAMN MANUFACTURER AND STOP WHINING ON A FORUM. Your iPod is covered under something magical called a "warranty"... use it.

I agree that 128k mp3 sounds like shit. I always rip in 256k mp3, mostly because all my stuff is already ripped and I have another mp3 player i may still use (gutted MuVo2 with a 512mb CF card), which can't do ACC.
If you rip in extremely high bitrate though (320k or higher), it will make a difference, as will ripping in wav format (if you're THAT obsessed about quality, maybe you should just use a discman).
What really kills your battery is constantly accessing the HDD through features like shuffling/random and that Music Quiz game. Both spin up and read from the HDD for EVERY song, not just every four or five songs as is with playlists.

Why are you people using CBR/????? good lord. VBR is key.
shifuimam
27-09-2004 13:50:05
Meh...I used to use VBR but it lowers the quality of some music, because it cuts the bitrate too low on higher pitches. Does it really make that big a difference on file sizes?
