You can have a more descriptive topic like, "Stupid article writes freeipods as a scam." This article is very unprofessional and has many mistakes. For example Gratis having a ton of BBB complaints? Up until a while ago their record was clean and all the complaints have been resolved.

Email sent by me to the author of the article

<email>
"I got my iPod, it does take a while to arrive (took 40 days until I got mine) but I got it. Gratis is the company that owns freeipods.com, freeipods.com is not a sub-company daughter-company or a company owned by Gratis, it is not even a company. Gratis' BBB record has been clean up until a little while ago and all of the complaints against them (which are not many by the way) have been resolved. Do not talk out of your ass and make stupid bullshit up so as to stop other people from being able to get their iPods. Also, LUNCH is spelled LUNCH not LAUNCH, dipshit.

You are stupid and you are an asshole.

Sincerely,
Yonatan

That "reporter" has poor writing skills. It also sounds as if he glanced over the Wired article and exaggerated the situation tenfold.

If that was a real newspaper article, I'd wipe my arse with it.

That dude is an asshole, his website is crap and it looks as if he never got past 1st grade..."LAUNCH" roflmao lol

It's actually a well respected online technology news site. Very well respected (Frequently linked to by slashdot.org among other high profile sites).

So no, it's not a trashy news site. Anyone claiming otherwise has never really read anything on the tech news scene... otherwise you'd be very familiar with their publication.

Gratis does apparantly have quite a few BBB reports filed in the past few weeks (in particular since the last Wired.com article). That's been reported by quite a few. I've yet to contact the BBB myself and see how many.

As far as spam goes yes, you get spam. Gratis admitted that a few days ago
http//www.macobserver.com/article/2004/09/23.5.shtml

Unlike their claim, it is completely random, from hairloss solutions, to morgage's everyone can get! to free money!. I used a virgin email= address, and only gratis has it. So I know it's them who distributed it. Nobody in the world would ever think of it randomly. So it's not possible it was just guessed by some clever mailbot (like email=email@domain.tldemail@domain.tld address, and only gratis has it. So I know it's them who distributed it. Nobody in the world would ever think of it randomly. So it's not possible it was just guessed by some clever mailbot (like email=email@domain.tldemail@domain.tld/email is destined to get spammed to death). I've got catch-all on my domain, so I would know if it's domain wide. It's targeted spam. Targeted at this 1 address. The contents also come from mail servers that are known spam servers (They are listed in 1 or more DNSBL's). So they are well known spammers, and blocked by most ISP's... my mail filters take care of that for me.

So anyone claiming they don't spam, either is inexperienced and trusting their ISP to de-spam for them... or has no clue what they are talking about. I take care of my own email, and have lots of experience with filtering spam. Yes, they do spam. Yes, it's known spam servers. Yes, it's several a day. It's not a 'flood', but it's not 'insignifigant'. Then again, I've seen 5k+ a day.

Just on a side-note. Why would a journalist from the Inquirer have a e-mail address, that is of a well-known ISP in Bulgaria? His name surely doesn't sound bulgarian (trust me, I was born there and we don`t have names such as Nick Farrell). Just curious. And as far as spam goes - I receive too much spam anyways, so I can't say whether they send or don't send spam.

I've gotten a TON of spam in my inbox. My hotmail account has suddendly got hit by a deluge of Mortgage emails, and an idle Yahoo account I've had for over a year is suddenly inondated with spam after using it to get my friend a referral.

Holy crap that article is a bunch of shit. Who the hell cares if you wait a month to get an iPod. OH NO! I'm getting spam in my fake email adress and I wont be getting an iPod until a month from now!

who cares if they spam. I get so much of it on an hourly basis that it doesnt even matter to me. Everyone should be using some kind of spam filter anyways.

the spam is really easy to resolve. The bottom of all the emails is a privacy link and you can remove yourself from that site. The spam stops and I am happy. It is another way Gratis is making money, and another front were most of us are going to make it not worth the effort.

Have you actually tried that? In MOST of the cases, after you click on that "remove from mailing list" link, you are definitely NOT removed. You just verify your email that way, so they can send you even MORE spam) So if I were you, I wouldn't use those "removal" links in the future)
