If I wanted to upgrade the RAM in the MacMini, what kind would I need to order? Does it take normal PC2700 RAM like a windows machine, or is there special 'apple' memory that must be purchased? I am going to order some new memory as soon as I get this thing and am a little confused about this.

From what I read, the memory included in the Mac Mini is Samsung PC3200U DDR memroy, but it only runs at PC2700 speeds..

People say Macs are picky of what RAM you use, so generic RAM is not reccommended..

Heres a link to Crucial's Mac Mini RAM recommendations. They are apple approved.

Go with Crucial because there is a guarantee of compatibility.

I've seen PC's not work with RAM that (on paper) is to the specs.

Just make sure you go through their tool to choose the correct RAM. It's a great guarantee.

GuyHersh - thanks! Thats not a bad price, either for 512Mb.

And yeah, STV at MiniMacs4free. The 1 extra referral is definitely worth it if I get this thing in the next couple of weeks.

Regular old PC2700 or 3200 or 3500, etc will work fine. That said, I recommend buying from a reputable dealer, I'd say newegg.com (newegg usually has the best prices anyway and by far the best customer service).
Try one of these two

(I've had great luck with the Rosewill memory products in Macs so far)

(Viking has always been a great Mac memory vendor)

enjoy your mini (still working on mine)

I've heard the Mac mini is very picky about memory. Be safe and buy from a reputable dealer.

I've used Mac Solutions in the past to great success.

Crucials 512 MB price looks good... the 1 GB is rather high though...

It's sort of true that Macs are more picky about memory. The real case is that it's more sensitive to a memory flaw. It's memory management puts ALL your ram to use no matter what. If the memory has a bad spot it's likely to hit it and that won't be a good thing™. Go with a good brand and you should be fine.

Also enjoy using a putty knife to open the baby up. That's the only thing I'm not looking forward to.
