Do you think we'll still get the 40Gb version or the new 30Gb version?

I'm on the current STV date and think there still might be enough of the 40Gb around for me to get one of those.

However, I might be a little pissed if I get downgraded to the new model because of the lack of accessories and the 10Gb difference in space. All you get in return for that is a slightly slimmer design. Give me a break.

I just saw the change, and I was curious too. I've been STV since the 4th.

The last time Apple changed their iPods, Grattis upgraded everyone from 15GB to 20GB. I think it would cause big legal problems if they were to downgrade us. If they upgrade us to 60GB, and I still get a 40GB... I'm gonna be mad.

I think you'll still get the 40gb. I think that I'l likely get the 30gb and be annoyed. I only have 4 of 10 referals right now. I knew I should have done photoipods sooner.

I'll try and find out for you guys today.. I sent an e-mail to Gratis last night, so once I get a reply to my previous question, I'll ask them about the photo ipods.

My thoughts they'll milk the 40GB for all it's worth (until their vendor runs out, because they'll most likely go on sale for $400, considering the price of the 60GB dropped). Then they'll switch to the 60GB and use the same amount of referrals. It's only $50 more expesive than the 40GB was. A Mac Mini from FreeMiniMacs has retail value of $600, and the 60GB iPod photo has retail value of $450, so they might as well just give you that one. Thanks, CG. It'll be interesting to see what they say.

PodTopia, I agree with you and I've been thinking the same thing myself.

My question is, what will I be getting?

I went STV on Feb. 7th, which was with the last group where most of them (maybe all but me) have already received their iPods. I'm definitely ahead of the current Feb. 17th STV group.

I'd really like to get a 60GB Photo iPod, but would be bummed to only get a 30GB. I'd be even more bummed if I got the 40GB and the Feb. 17th STV group all got the 60GB.

Oh, well. I guess I'll just have to wait and hope.

I dont think they will downgrade us we are already stv for the 40gb so that means they sent an order for 40gb not 30's and those will be more available anyways

On a happy note, I was just approved and ordered my Free Samsung 17" LCD. )

It would be nice though to get one of the new ones and then get the optional Camera Connector (http//www.apple.com/pr/library/2005/feb/23ipodphoto.html[]http//www.apple.com/pr/library/2005/feb/23ipodphoto.html)

[quotef11e8c5eef]The new iPod Camera Connector is an optional accessory that enables customers to connect their digital camera to iPod photo and import their photos into the iPod. By simply connecting the iPod Camera Connector and a digital camerali, customers can easily transfer digital images to their iPod photo, providing tremendous storage space so they can take more pictures. Imported photos are immediately viewable on iPod photo's crisp color screen, and can also be brought back to iPhotoŽ on the Mac or various photo applications on the PC. The iPod Camera Connector is expected to be available in late March for $29.[/quotef11e8c5eef]
I wonder if this will work with the older iPod Photos. It would seem like they'd only need a firmware update at worst to support it. This would make the iPod Photo the ultimate storage device to go along with your digital camera.

I don't get it.

I requested approval yesterday, and the 40GB option is still in there. It would be interesting to know what will we get, as I will be approved by next Tuesday, so I will wait a bit if they let us order the 60gigs.
I would have been too pissed if I didn't plan on exchanging it for a 60GB version, but still if I JUST missed the 40GB photo iPods, I would be .. mad) Anyway, PSP is coming!)

I think we should be getting the regular 40gb ipod photos. The 2/18 stv people may very well be the last group getting thum unless they have already purchased a bunch of photo ipods in advance.
I would say, since it's almost been a week since the 2/18 stv date, and the Ipods will be shipping this week most likely, our group should be getting the 40gb units. They must have been purchased by now.

I still haven't gotten the 40GB that went shipped on 1/10. o

I can only hope it'd because they're "Bumping me up" to the new one, but as long as I get one, I'll be happy.

But still, like I said in another thread, it's unfair for Gratis to just switch out the models when the changes are that significant.

C'mon Gratis, it's only fair that you do another site for these.

I bet you won't think like that if they change the 40gb iPod Photo for a 30gb one.
A 60GB one now costs about as much as the 40GB version, when they started the site (if not lower price). And still 10 referrals for a 30GB Photo iPod, is WAY too much ($350 is close to the original $300 retail price of 20GB iPods, for which we were only required to get 5 referrals).
It would be ridiculous to start for example a new site, which offers 30GB for let's say 6 or 7 referrals (they simply can't make it much more than that, and Gratis has been very reasonable with the referrals needed), and at the same time keep freephotoipods.com at 10referrals for a 40GB "old" one.
It's a very difficult situation. Either way someone is going to get screwed. If they downgrade to 30GB, people with new orders (like me) will be pissed... If they upgrade to the 60GB ones, people with older orders will be pissed...Gratis really has to do something about this, as they will HAVE to change the 40GB iPod in the future eventually (we don't have unlimited supply of 40gigs out in the market after all).
So come on, Gratis, do something that will be good for all of us (preferably upgrade to 60GB iPods!))

The 60GB is CHEAPER than the original 40GB. The 40GB was $499, the 60GB is $449. I am expecting them to be shipping the 60GBs, unless they get a massive discount from the 40GBs. They won't be shipping 30GBs, dont worry.

EDIT I just checked eCost and they're listing 40GBs at $379. That's prolly what we're getting.

I hope you're right) I was going to upgrade the 40GB one to 60gigs, and if they do that it will be pretty nice

maybe when we get the 40gb we can exchange for a 60gb at the old price prolle not but maybe they can ;) just a thought

Think about this...

Gratis is now offering a 19" Sony LCD (Sony SDM-S93/B) on FreeFlatScreens which retails anywhere from $400 to $500. FreeFlatScreens only requires 8 referrals as opposed to 10 for FreePhotoiPods. Either way you look at it, if we get either the 30GB or 40GB Photo iPod we're getting royally ripped off. FreeMiniMacs offers a $600 Mac Mini for 10 referrals. The only way for Gratis to come out looking good is for them to start immediately upgrading everyone to the 60GB Photo iPod.

When this thing started the 40GB version cost $500 so 10 referrals was reasonable. Since the 40GB iPod has gone down to $400 Gratis has been milking their profits from this pretty well. If they don't start offering the 60GB iPod immediately then I'll lose a lot of faith in Gratis.

No matter what they do I'll probably be getting a 40GB iPod since I was STV back on Feb. 7th. But that 40GB Photo iPod isn't looking nearly as good as it used to.
