They make way more money by getting the public interest piqued before the actual product is available. Allows for word-of-mouth to spread.

The only thing that bugs me is that I've seen someone here at my schools computer lab with a shuffle thinking he's the shit. When I could of had mine for a while now if gratis would of thought ahead. Ohh well it's all ok because even though I still don't have mine in the long run I'll still be $149 richer when it is all said and done.
