I read today that they're planning to retail for $199, but could drop to $149 to compete with Nintendo.

March 24th in a "value" pack with tons of goodies for $249.99 US
That is the official launch details, altho I'm sure later on they will release a stand-alone unit model for much less.

They aren't releasing a standalone in the US, you have to buy the bundle

I subscribe to the Official Playstation Magazine, and they have it at $199.99 with a possible drop. And most likely not going to be released that early...

They already PUBLICLY announced from SONY that what I said above is true, I am not stating opinion, I am going by what SONY themselves have said.

This whole bundle package raises a question to me, though it may be a silly one. The PSP's in the US (initially) are going to be priced at $250 because of the bundled package. I would imagine that Gratis will be shipping out US version PSP's... Does that mean that Gratis will be will be shipping us the PSP with bundle package? Or just the unit alone.....

They HAVE to send the bundle version, it's going to be the ONLY version available for the time being. no one knows when a standalone unit will go on sale.

you will be able to save movies on it like a pvp but i cant save much with a 32mb so im gonna end up buying the 1gb for around $120

eYank, You don't have to save your media on the memory stick. There is also a 1.8GB UMD harddrive too I believe.

You have a link to that umd hdd thing, so I can read more on it?

check out psp.ign.com - there should be some info there.
Supposidly the $250 value pack in the US is also going to include a Spiderman 2 UMD movie, last I heard.

would be mighty nice if there were someway to get the PSP to read dvds (

ya, you can convert your dvds to fit on the memory card though
glacier505
21-02-2005 17:07:55
you can convert em to an mpeg 4 format and put them on the harddrive. It wont fit on a memory card unless you have a huge one. But even so, you have to downsample the dvd quite a bit and even get rid of the extras in some cases. Im saying I wish the PSP could read actual dvds, not ripped/downsampled/stripped versions (

UMD is a proprietary format. At this point in time there is no way to write to the UMD disks, so no, you can't store movies on them. You can PURCHASE movies in UMD format specifically for the PSP, but they are projected to cost the same as retail DVDs; thus, they are not wort it IMO.
