Evil_Prof_Frink

24-09-2004 13:58:47

I think it's safe to say that a lot of us don't buy all of the albums we have on our computer.

3277 songs, 16 gigs...

24-09-2004 14:05:45

Well, I won't say how much music I have, cause last time I did, thatoneguy and some other people came after me and freaked out, for some reason. In the end, they were left that somehow I'm homophobic, which is quite opposite from the truth (;)), and I was left with the idea that they hate nostalgia. lol

Don't wanna talk bout that no more... lol wink

Buying music really doesn't have to be that costly. Go to www.allofmp3.com[]www.allofmp3.com (Just switch from Russian to English )) This site found a loophole in US copyright law, and can therefore LEGALLY sell music for very cheap. You pay based on bandwith, one penny for every megabyte of music. They offer a vast range of music codecs and bitrates to suit your needs. I myself just bought three albums encoded at 320kbps MP3 for $1.50 a piece.

You guys are telling me that hardly any of you pay for albums? What's the point of having hundreds of cd's if you don't care about them or listen to them. You are not that much cooler if you have 1000's more songs while just downloading them constantly from the internet.

Grow up, and pay for things.

Inferno69

24-09-2004 14:56:47

Ok ok, I just said "pay" ecause 'Downloading" songs is llegal. But still, thats tons of songs, if you have tons of GOOD rap songs IM me.

hey inferno, you should get talib kweli's new album. It just came out on the web two days ago. I am opting for the 40 gig thru another switch at retail stores cause i have over 12,000 shock songs. not bullshyting either

As long as some of you guys keep paying for music, we don't have to. Too many people pay for music right now for the RIAA to be losing any money. Most of us would not of have bought the music anyway.

If an artist wants to sue you for downloading their music, fuck them. They should be making music so people can listen to it, not so they can make money. That is why Metallica sucks.

Yeah, Incubus said they have nothin against illegal downloading. As long as people hear there music they said they don't really care whether you buy it or not. 8)

shifuimam

24-09-2004 17:31:11

To date, I have 1,214 different artists and around 5,300 mp3s (25.6GB). About half are downloaded files, and the rest are direct full album rips, from friends' CDs, library CDs, or my own collection (I have about 150 CDs). I still buy music that I really want or that's on sale. Just start ripping CDs...your local public library may let you borrow out CDs as well as books, so it's free and you can get quality MP3s. I hardly ever download anymore, but that's just me. The quality usually sucks too much to make it worthwhile.

DScala

24-09-2004 19:08:50

Well that's because Incubus is the shlit, and Metallica are a bunch of washed up no talent ass clowns.

btw, the best way to keep your music collection growing is to borrow as many CDs as you can and import them into Itunes. It also helps if you have diverse taste in music.

absolutely agree w/ paying for things. some people think the world owes them. i try to do a coupla things. i use limewire for albums that i've already owned, but lost or scratched up. or if an artist i love comes out w/ something new i'll either buy the cd, or a coupla songs. or i'll buy at least a certain percentage of the albums, just b/c i download a lot of stuff i'd def. not pay to have. If you can't afford to buy all of it, at least pay for lisomeli.

i wish the recording industry wasnt such a corrupt monopoly, and more money went to the artists and less to the executives and lawyers.

I'd buy more CDs if it meant I wasn't directly supporting the RIAA, which are a bunch of money-grubbing bastards who do things like sue 12-year-olds for unwittingly sharing copyrighted music.

So apparently THREE million isn't enough in salary...why not add a little extra in your lawsuits so you can buy another Porsche? I'm not usually one to boycott a company or anything like that, but the RIAA irritates more more than any other industry/corporation in the U.S. The last thing they need is more money - I'd rather send a $100 check directly to the home address of one of my favorite bands than buy their CD through an RIAA-affiliated recording label.

P.S. Disney music is good. It's not my fault they keep writing/producing cool songs for their tv shows and movies. )

i download something and if i like it enough i'll buy the CD. because if i don't like it i don't listen to it. so i don't feel guilty.

here's a cool trick to be able to see a txt file of all your music...

go to start; run

type in cmd

say the root is C\my documents\User1\
and your music is in C\my documents\User1\My Music\

what you do is type in "cd my music" (or whatever the next folder you're opening is)

once you get to the folder that has all your music in it type in "dir /w /s > Music.txt"

click enter and it'll take about 1 second. then go into the folder you did that for and look for the text file. it'll have all your music file info in it. ALL of it

I've got a 120 gig external HD floating around my friends...that contains my playlist. I get what I like from like 7 or so different friends every week...

You keep saying this. I have a lot of music, and I can never have enough. I like the fact that, when something crosses through my mind, it's on my computer.

I still haven't prepared my defense for those who accuse me of "stealing" music, however different "computer" music listeners should be differentiated I will never say "lol but they put one good song on an album and charge 17bux for it. i'm not paying them 4 that shit" because I like entire albums. Maybe I don't listen to much shit music, or I just don't get that point.

Many late nights browsing through allmusic tying artists together and branching off into different projects and history. I run back to my sources and check something out. It's been said before that MP3s have done wonders for otherwise little-known artists. It's no wonder that indie music is, and has been, so big for the last few years.

There's a certain feeling when you are sure you have everything an artist has ever made, and it comes from a true love of the artist and their music.

My computer is my music archive. I rip everything the day I buy it. I also buy way too many CDs. I won't embrace "legal" music downloading until it is lossless. And i'm done with this incoherent ramble.

In the case of iTunes/Napster/etc. assured quality, it's easier.

But i'd never touch that site. If you're going to break the law (including buying from that site), you might as well do it right.
