I bet most of us here are PC users just DYING to delve into the Apple realm with our Mini's.

I'm one of them anyway, and I've been reading all these macs sites, subscribing to magazines, what not. I basically know my way around OS X now, and I havent even used it in like a year.

Anybody else as pathetic as me and just waste their time reading apple-related news while waiting for their mini?

Just go STV! PLEASE Gratis please! Has anyone gotten any for sure word from Gratis for whether the delay is on their end or apples end?

i've started listening to mac talk shows like Your Mac Life and Inside Mac. I also visit MacWorld.com daily now.

techdude,

Quick tip, your little Order history screenshots, save them as gif files. They end up being ALOT smaller in file size, and look alot better.

Mine is under 2k, and yours are about 24k. Which look better?

Not to be picky, but it helps people still stuck on dial-up, like myself.

Oh, and the reason gifs are better in this case, is cuz there are 10 different colors in the image, a lower amount of colors = smaller filesize for gifs. Jpegs are best for images with thousands of colors.

Well, I want to go STV, but I'm already using a Mac, so it's not as critical for me. But I can understand if you were using a PC why you would want it shipped fast.

BTW, a good Mac site is www.macdailynews.com; and Mac360.com. Enjoy!

I made the "switch" about a year and a half ago with a G3 iBook. I have since then gone to a G4 1ghz powerbook which I love and at work I am using a G5 Powermac. The mini though will be my first mac desktop machine for home. I have a PC right now and bought a KVM switch so I can use both systems. I try and stay updated on all the mac news sites here are the ones I reccommend

How long did it take you guys to get approval? I just requested it yesterday, and am hoping all my referrals go through.

Took me 2 days to be approved.

It took me a week to get approved. I applied Friday, got approved the next Friday.

I'm typing this on an iMac G4 right now. One of the first generation ones. The Mac mini will largely be an upgrade for me that's sorely needed; (I can play World of Warcraft and indeed do despite being under the processor specs, 800MHz instead of 1GHz.) Though I'll be going down in number of USB ports (but upgrading to USB2), so I'll need a hub. I've already picked a 17" LCD monitor I'll be picking up. I'll wanna upgrade the ram, badly. Which CAN indeed be done with the magic of a putty knife. I'll miss my super drive but I don't burn DVDs THAT often.. twisted

Took me only a few hours to be approved.

I did it on that friday. I guess I was just one of the last in that batch. Perfect timing.

DIGITALgimpus

I got approved in what was likely no more than 90 minutes.

Odds are I submitted for approval right before they started going down their list for the week.

Hence I got in right at the end of that batch.

I'm looking forward to the MiniMac.. but moreso for my FDPC and Notebooks4Free money. I plan on getting the Cyberpower PC, buying an extra 512mb of RAM (to bump it up to a gig), a new TV tuner card, and possibly a DVD burner.

That boot time reminds me of the OLD NT 4.0 machine we had running Sql Server back when I first started at our company. The thing wasn't an underpowered machine, it was just that NT was incapable of being fast or stable or good.

i'm so sick of people complaining about their XP machine sucking so bad because of spyware and ads and crap like that... then they say "macs suck" "why?" "psh, they just do lol"

(i dont have problems with my xp machine because i spend all of my time on it keeping it clean, which i shouldn't have to do in the first place)

ugh... i can't wait to get my mac mini. screw windows.

what's this i hear about os x coming to x86 hardware? (not pearpc or emulation) ... there is a large demand for x86 OS X. if apple follows through my laptop will be so happy... all of my computers will be happy. )

Many people want it. However what you hear is but a silly dream. People don't seem to understand that ultimately Apple is a [b5015753d5e]hardware[/b5015753d5e] company. Mac OS X is GREAT, but ultimately it's part of the entire Apple package. Just be moving it to generic x86 hardware you'd kiss a lot of the beauty goodbye. Suddenly there would be driver issues (How can you have a driver problem on a Mac when Apple ships all the internal hardware?). You'd lose the SLICK integrated feel of the whole system. Not to mention since Apple's primary income is from hardware sales, you'd lose Apple.

ah neo don't be so negative, there's a market for it. Apple is gonna start making its push to an industry wide thing, like they're doing with the mini mac. I mean, I'd be surprised if Apple actually DID release their OS as something that could be bought for x86 systems, but it's not like it'd be anathema.

whenrabbisattack

11-02-2005 13:23:32

the "mac cult" seems to be made up of "mac snobs" who think their system is better than yours. and while i understand where they're coming from (macs are sexy.) they all seem to be narrow-minded and prejudice against other OSes.

linux is great. linux is awesome, but come on... does it have to be so difficult to use?

and yeah, i understand what you mean about mac osx on x86 screwing over apple's hardware.... damn those are nice machines.

and remember Compaq is to Apple as Toyota is to BMW

josiah296

OS X isn't linux, it's BSD, to be anal about it. And OS X is ridiculously easy to use, hell, easier to use than XP, and I just made the switch a few months back, and I was a die-hard windows fan. Best thing 'bout OS X is its for both idiots and power-users, which is why the software dev company I manage now uses mostly Mac's running OS X the uber geeks love it and the idiots like myself get ease-of-use. Nearly the best of both worlds.

Yeah but the Mac mini is an attempt to get PC users to go over to the Mac side of thing. Apple definitely wants to invade the x86 market, but that's by getting them to switch over to Macs. wink

Linux is a kernel, it's up to the individual distros to decide things like that. I've set up fully BSD-like systems on a linux kernel before, but really, FreeBSD is better anyway. )

Has anyone heard any word lately?

I've been waiting semi-patiently for a month... but I can't last much longer..

Hope it doesn't take that long to send out their PSPs... Cuz i'll probably end up buying one and selling the one I get from Gratis at this rate...
