Costco.

They were very helpful, looked up my 20gb (HP) and saw it in their online inventory and let me do the upgrade. Good thing about it was their 40 gb is only $379 so you save 20 bucks, AND their return policy lets you take it back WHENEVER and get the value. 5g IPOD come out? No prob, keep the original box and receipt, return it and get a new ipod for the next few years! (I do this all the time with my Sprint phone - paid $279 and have swapped it out 3 times)

Anyway, good luck guys! And thanks for everyone's help!

At the costco store they are only $379, online is different because you don't need a membership. I didn't use my student discount.

Yes - it was unopened, still shrinkwrapped. Took it 2 minutes after the UPS guy dropped it off...

Also went to best buy and circuit city first. Circuit City was a waste - they have a database of all orders. Best Buy was very wiilling to take it, but they had no 40 gbs.

if you know you want a 40, why open the 20. nobody'll take back an opened ipod without a receipt. even if best buy did, they'd charge you a 15% restocking fee

don't you have to pay for membership to buy stuff from costco? like sam's club?

Yes $35 a year....I consider it a good deal -> I saved $20 on the pod, that leaves a $15 membership fee which is like an extended warranty (take it back anytime) plus all the other cool shit costco has to offer ;)

Yeah costco has some really cool stuff and cool prices. Do you know if Costco has Mini's?

No Mini's - just HP 40's in store (works for us!)

Online they have a wider selection, however no discount.

Yep I paid $107 (with tax) for my shiny new 40, with full costco return policy....

At best buy I just told them it was a gift from a friend, he ordered it online. No lies. Peter @ Gratis is my friend now ) and he ordered it for me from eCost...Anyway depending on who you get at best buy (most likely some pimply faced high school kid (no offense) they will just be like "uh, ok I can give you store credit". Take it and run to the Wireless dept, grab your 40gb and run to the counter...you are good to go )

Costco is MUCH easier though. They scan the 20gb from ecost, it shows up in their inventory, say it was an online order, they take it back and give you a gift card with something like $309 or so...just use it to grab the 40 and pay the difference.
