If you have a 3g ipod or lower model (I doubt you do), you could install ipodlinux and use your left earbud as a mic P.

Get an iTalk, and that external Griffin mic too.

oooh, nice. I want an iTalk. I was doing www.freeipodeverything.com for one, but neither of my refs completed. I'll probably just buy one though, for my lecture courses. Can you do other things with your ipod while it's recording with an iTalk? I'd like to be able to read ebooks while recording the lecture.

you could get a nice mic for good recording. get a condenser mic or just a rewgular vocal mic. get an adapter to 1/8 inch plug it in that way.

so, if i am understanding correctly the headphone port on the ipod will also allow you to record? do you need any special software?

I heard that you can't do much recording time without an iTalk, as it needs to access the data port next to the headphone jack in order for the iPod to record for longer periods of time.

Can someone confrm this?

i would like to know as well. my girlfriend wants to use hers to record as she plays piano. she is using my old mini-disc but i dont have a way to put the md into mp3 currently, and an ipod would help immensely.
