Once again, I'm on hold, as are not two (last time) but THREE of my referrals, all of whom have either been OK'd by Gratis in the past, or who have had their accounts cleared within the last week! I'm sorry, but if they are checking their information over carefully to avoid fraud, wouldn't they be looking close enough to see the these people have been cleared and are perfectly legitimate referrals? I mean, c'mon, they took me off hold on TUESDAY!!! It's THURSDAY!!! For Pete's sake! I don't mean to foam at the mouth here, I know they're covering their butts, but this is ludicrous!!!

I'm sorry, Lance. It sounds like it was an automatic hold. I believe a similar thing happened to Stroid and many others... they clear you, you sign up for approval again, and you get on hold again. I belive if you request a manual approval you should be ok. Congrats on getting your referrals, and I'm sure it will all work out )

This just in, my long-winded inquiry, detailing the hold-no hold shuffle was just closed abruptly with their stock "here's our policy" answer and after my reply of, "Ok, so..." they shut it down. they also asked me a question in my "hold - no violation" inquiry and THEN closed it. Did the same last time.

Sheesh...

Thanks for the support, LizM, and GO YANKEES!!!! (I'm from upstate originally) I'm in daily contact with all three they denied and should be able to cajole them into re-re-undoing the holds!

Sucky story...good topic!

Good luck...I have a feeling I will have some legit referrers go on hold due to them being in the same dorm, so I hope I don't have a similar experience.

Is that even with different room numbers(like having different apartment numbers)?

Make sure to ask them to look at your previous inquiries and to tell them that you were taken off hold and that you were told that the situation would be rectified... thats what I did.

Well, I'm off hold, but my 3 referrals aren't. Got the "have them contact us directly" spiel. I know that a few people here have gone through this hoop, and requested "manual" approval. How do you do that and how long did it take you to get approved?

i was on and of hold 4 times i just requested it through the customer service inquiries

How long did it take you to get approved manually?

Stroid

it just happened the day after the 4th hold was removed it took 1 day

sorry for the dumb question but what is manual approval?

Stroid

03-02-2005 13:13:20

you request manual approval through a customer service inquiry because of problems with approval

Lance

You know, I considered asking for manual approval before I clicked the "approval" button, I knew I should have. It's such a pain to have to ask my referrals to go abck and just through these hoops again. 'Specially since none of them actually are trying to get an iPod. One of the three actually has 2 'pods!

i clicked the approval button and requested manual approval

Lance

sorry to double up, but do you click the "approval" button and THEN ask for mannual approval, or just ask them via the CS section?

I'm in a similar situation anticipating having friends in different rooms from the same dorm sign up. Any precautions you'd recommend, or will I just have to suck it up later and jump through all the hoops anyway?

Stroid

try to sing up with diffrent ips and tell them to use their home addresses

I kind of figured that...guess I was looking for more of a loophole, advice on dealing with Gratis, and/or tips on how to avoid the undesirable "put-on-hold-due-to-similar-but-different-dorm-IPs" situation. I have several friends in my dorm whom I would ordinarily recruit, but I'm scared of dooming my account. (They all live out of town, so no, I can't just have them go home to Mom and Dad to sign up.)

(Does this need a new thread? It's kind of its own topic.)

i messed really bad on my account. but somehow i still got approved. and now i make sure i follow every rule. if someone has a chance of being flagged with the same ip, i don't ask them to help...
