Just thought I would give an FYI I read today on mac minute. It says that Apple Stores are expected to have enough supply by the end of this month. http//www.macminute.com/2005/02/01/apple-stores[=http//www.macminute.com/2005/02/01/apple-stores]http//www.macminute.com/2005/02/01/apple-stores

What I don't get is why doesn't Gratis STV all of them and then blame slow ship times on the back order??

I'd be happy just to know that it was STV.

I don't understand why Apple introduced these two products without enough stock not instantly run out.

Yeah I think they should STV us all too. Just curious my email from Gratis said 1-2 weeks for my order to be shipped out. Has anyone been processing for over 2 weeks yet? It has been 1 week for me now.

Its part of the good ol' history of apple.
Back in 1996, Gil Amelio was the CEO of apple. Apple, during this time, had a huge history of producing high supply for products, especially for launch items, but having no demand -- this evenutally, along with a few other moves by this idiot, drove apple's stocks into a nose dive (a 12-year-low) and profit LOSSES of $708 million. Steve Jobs replaces him in 1997, with an annual salary of $1 (he sorta begged Apple's company board to fire that guy and take him back, even for $1). I guess why Steve Jobs makes a low supply of products for launch time is to test it out If it gets sold out, great, increase manfacturing rate. If not, keep the supplies low.

Apple has always had supply issues... either too many or too little.

It's good that there's a demand for Apple product. The last thing Apple wants is too much inventory. Don't forget, the only company that makes Apple products is Apple... it's not like buying a PC where you have hundreds of companies outputing crap by the tons – whether components or full PCs. Apple is in control of every aspect of their products... hence sometimes you have to wait... especially when there's a demand like Mac mini and iPod shuffle.
