I have been searching the web and it seems that if you do not order your mac mini with the airport option, it is basically impossible to add it later.

Is there any way to contact Gratis and find out if the minis they are offering come with the airport card installed???

It looks like the option will be available later, but I believe you have to have an Apple Certified Technician install it. They have the manual on how to install it though on this website http//www.kevinrose.com/[=http//www.kevinrose.com/]http//www.kevinrose.com/

Somehow I doubt that there will be bluetooth or airport support.

Not a big deal for me, I don't have any wireless internet/devices.

I dunno if it'll be impossible to add later. I bet an apple authorized person could do it. I bet you could even do it yourself if you were hardcore.

Authorized Apple service should be able to add it later. It's apparently not easy to do at all. Check out MacWorld... they dissect is and show you where everything is.

Also, the RAM IS user upgradeable, despite what you read elsewhere.

if you dont open it, you can exchange it and pay the difference at an apple store or authorized apple seller.

The airport extreme will be about as difficult to install as the RAM (the hard part being opening the case). Not sure about the bluetooth, you may have to get a USB dongle for it.

does apple sell these airport extreme cards at their apple store, or do you have to get them at some special apple service parts center (since we arent supposed to be doing this in the 1st place ? roll )

Seriously check out that Kevin Rose link. He has a pdf from Apple on how to upgrade the normal model to support bluetooth and wireless ethernet.

Yeah, you can buy them at any Apple store. If you're a student they're $69. Refurbished ones also run $69.

I can comfirm that, they will give you store credit for the full price as long as it is unopened.

Thanks shorty, that's good to know.

Since they say that it's the 80GB HD, I'm assuming that it's the 1.4 ghz G4 prcessor rather than the 1.2 - can anyone confirm?

I don't see why they'd bother building custom machines, which is what you'd have to do to get an 80 gig HD and not have the faster processor. Besides, a machine with the upgraded HD on the Apple Store costs only 50 less than the default configuration with the faster HD and CPU.

But now that I think about it, it'd be nice to have the SuperDrive instead of the combo drive. Then your Mini would be a multimedia powerhouse. Add a usb TV tuner... it'd make me thinking about macsturbating.

i've done my research, and there aren't that many mac-compatible TV tuners out there.... i think i've seen only one model (and it is ugly and pricey) that works with mac

The elGato eyeTV works with a mac, I think it's the cheapest one. I know there are others, but can't remember their names off the top of my head.

The Mini will become my media center. Visit engadget http//www.engadget.com/entry/1234000057028826/. It's a really handy "how-to" on how to turn your Mini into a media center. 500GB Multimedia Powerhouse, here we come!!! Now only to get 10 refs......

i have no reason to believe that they would have ordered custom minis with the slower proc, but i sent a customer service inquiry to Gratis to confirm, once they get back to me i'll post on it

order your macs from www.applestuff4free.com
they have wireless over there. if you're interested in signing up, pm me for my referal link

Maybe if I hadn't already worked hard to get the referrals I have. Right now I'm going after a digital camera (to take pictures of the mac mini) from tech4free.com.

With the amount of effort it's taken me lately, however, I don't think I'll ever get it. It's just too hard to convince any more people. Maybe it'll be easier once my Mac Mini is in my hands.

Yeah the bluetooth and aiport extreme seem really easy to install. If you've ever built a computer before or taken apart a computer before I'm sure it would be very easy to install bluetooth, airport extreme, more ram, and even a bigger hard drive. Thats what I'm going to do if I ever get one.... )
