Man, the suspense is killing me. Even more so since my first request was denied because one of my referrals thought he could just cheat and get a free iPod. So to avoid checking the site every 15 minutes I thought I would try to take my mind off the wait )

1. Install and play with iTunes.
2. Rip all my music. - Big job.
3. Look at skins, cases, accessories.
4. Read through ipodlounge.
5. Go to work and stay busy.

any other ideas?

Well, I went to work, and still checked the site every 15 minutes.

LOL.

On the 6th floor of the office building that my high school was temporarily in while they renovated the building.

LOL

I'm serious too. When we moved floors, I used to be working in my old English classroom. Now that we've moved to another part of the floor that I wasn't in so much, it's been better.

Hy-Vee. A large grocery store chain in the midwest. Although, I did quit a few days ago shock

Hey, you might as well get started on hacking your iPod, by designing a new do not disconnect logo, and picking the perfect font. ;)

if you have your files in Windows Media Format, drag it into iTunes and it will copy them into AAC (apple's new mp3 subsistute).

if you have CDs, just rip them on iTunes, you're better off that way.

I think most people just spend the time when they're waiting for status updates to complete other sites. You'd probably get so caught up in looking for referrals that you wouldn't even consider the limbo time on whichever site. I think these are also the people that end up with a steady stream of free crap being delivered to their doorsteps, and with the feds staked out across the street trying to see if they're running a mini chop shop.

I love iTunes. It does a great job of organizing your music, and the only reason I went back to WMP is b/c all that...free, legit, uncopyrighted music that we shared on campus last semester was mostly in WMA format, and there was so much of it that I never felt like converting it. I guess that would be a good time-waster.

They have color "do not disconnect" logos. Is that just because they are using the photo ipod? Or can you make the 20GB color somehow?

what do you mean by "drag them from WMP to itunes" how does that work?

No, they have both. I have a 4G 20GB, and I've changed the greyscale image and fonts about five times already. )

So you CAN have a color 20GB Fourth Generation iPod?

am_pcguy

24-01-2005 20:08:07

I think he means that if you use a color image it will be converted to grayscale. The 20GB iPod is monochrome, your not getting to much color from that.

I don't think I'll be hacking any iPod I get anytime soon. I worked to hard to get it...

I did find some nice CD ripping software though Exact Audio Copy + Lame Encoder. It's free (well, he wants a postcard) and it works great. I like it better than iTunes for ripping.

Yeah, sorry that I wasn't clear. You can only upload monochrome images to the 20 & 40GB 4G iPods.

I haven't done a colour upload yet, as I'm still waiting for [ib8c85bf99c]that[/ib8c85bf99c] iPod. ;)

Recompressing a file compressed with a lossy codec with another lossy codec will lose a HUGE amount of sound quality. The recompression algy tries to imitate the invisible 'errors' in the decompressed file, and end up making a bunch of crap.

Try it yourself compress an mp3 to 192 then recompress it to like, wma 128. Then try compressing the original to wma 128 in the beginning. Huge difference.

i know that. but for newbies, its better to teach them that then to teach them the whole complex procedure, especially if the WMA is off the net. thats why I also said in my original post "if you have (the) CDs, just rip them on iTunes, you're better off that way."

it's faster to just import the files into your library from the iTunes menu. It will prompt you for file conversion.

So when i first open itunes it will say "would you like to import your music?"

Thanks

I have a question about my approve confirmation. My request for approve was on 1/18/05, Last Tuesday. Now it has been a week now. Some other members on this site request on 21th is celebrating in a forum about he/she got approved on Monday and went processing status. How long do I need to wait before I got approve? A mouth/two?

And I found out their word worth nothing at all....and I still waiting for approve. x

I just feel unfair about us (ppl who requested approve before 21st) couldn't get approve on Monday. While some ppl requested on 21st get approved.

J4320

26-01-2005 17:29:42

I do find that a little unfair. You're right. I'll wait one more day. Then I'll send them a message. I'll probably just get the response that you got though...

xlife

26-01-2005 21:22:20

when I asked for a human, non-automated response, they told me that my account was in queue to be approved (after getting the same message that was posted above the day before). So, oh well. I included that the first-come-first-save is bull (not in so many words) but they chose not to address that question. I think I'm over the craze, I can just wait for approval now.
