I wouldn't risk screwing anything up when I get my iPod by putting linux on it. I would if I had a second maybe. The linux thing does look cool though.

LINUX DOES NOT RUN ON THE 4TH GEN IPODS!!
they only work on 1-3 generation.
also, i dont want to permanently install an ipod in my car...somebody might steal it when i'm driving around inside the city -X. That happened to a friend of mine once, this new Sirius satellite unit, somebody just ripped it out of the car, wires and everything. Its crazy.
and the other hacks take too much effort. -_-. lol.
