I'm really debating about what iPod case I should purchase, now that I have an iPod in my possession ). I ordered a Carbon colored iSkin from www.iskin.com[]www.iskin.com, but it's on immense backorder, and I'm having some buyer's remorse. From those here who have purchases cases, would an xskn www.xskn.com[]www.xskn.com or Contour Showcase http//www.contourdesign.com/showcase/[]http//www.contourdesign.com/showcase/ be a better choice? Thanks!

I'm looking for a more complete case that will let me carry around my headphone splitter and iTrip along with the pod itself...is there any solution that would cover this?

The iskin evo2 comes with a free little carrying case. It's made to either hold the ipod or accessories. you might be able to fit accessories in with the ipod IDK.

yeah the evo2 is probably your best bet. As soon as my ipod comes, i think imma get that one

you may also want to look into an exo case from Lajo - www.lajo.biz (somewhat funky, and at times slow, site). Lajo and the iSkin owner (Andrew I think) were partners initially and then had a falling out. Their designs are still somewhat similar, and both have their pros and cons, but I think Lajo's are slightly better.

Lajo offers 8 different styles for the 4G case and a TON of colors. However, manufacturing is just ramping up so there are only a handful available on the site. Lajo wanted to get the cases in the hands of resellers first and then sell to the consumer after. There seems to be stock of some Asphalt (similar to evo2 Carbon) models. My favorite style of the new line is the exo3x which is a 1.2mm skin with a covered click-wheel for added protection.

Lajo's skins are cheaper, but don't include the extra accessories (Lajo's belt clip is MUCH better than iSkin's IMHO). An evo2 is usually about $30 with a skin, screen protector and clip (also at iskin.com you can get a free case right now) - whereas the Lajo skins range from just under $10 - $22 for the skin (depending on style), $3.50 for screen protector, $6.50 for clip. Lajo has specials and sales all the time (50% off, buy 2 get 1 free, free case, etc). So, on price they're about comparable, although Lajo doesn't force you to buy the extras. Also, a lot of Lajo's resellers will sell them as a package for $30 like the evo2.

Anyway, its just another manufacturer to look at. I have a Lajo skin for my 2G iPod and will be getting one for my 4G. I love the covered wheel design and am excited about getting a thinner skin to keep my iPod sexy and small.

A good breakdown of the different lajo skins can be seen here

mapStuart Nice link.

The guy who designed that site should learn CSS, would eliminate a butt load of those images he used.

I'm shooting for a Lajo because i've heard that the iSkins and Jam Jackets pick up lint and stuff REALLY easily. I dunno though...are the Lajos made out of the same material?

Oh, and are there any good reseller sites I could use?

They're both silicon cases, so both will pick up lint and such. I hear this problem wears off after a while, and if not, there are some solutions. Sprinking baby powder on the case alleviates the stickiness, though I'm not sure how that would work on the Ebony or darker cases.

Yeah, the Lajo's are the high-quality silicon like the iSkins, so lint pickup is inevitable unless you take measures to combat against it.

IpodFace yeah, the Lajo site is pretty ridiculous - not only from a CSS perspective, but they also do zero image optimization even though they seem to use ImageReady (as evidenced by the completely wacked-out cutup on the comparison page). Anyway, they have good ideas for stuff and Lajo is ALWAYS giving stuff away on his forums and having great specials, so I really dig the guy and what he's doing.

what are ways to combat link pickup?

i found some jam jackets on ebay. reading through some of the seller's feedback, some people mentioned that the case itself scratched the iPod when putting the skin on. does anyone know whether the jam jackets are ALSO silicone or if they are hard plastic?

shifuimam

DLO jam jackets are soft silicone like iSkins and Lajo eXo Skins.

is there anywhere where you could buy stylish leather cases?

I thought the painting service they showed on the screensavers. They put a clear coat on the screen that makes it scratc-proof

Anyone with one of these know how the covered scroll wheel works? I'm having a hard time imagining how you could still change the volume.

the contour showcase owns iskin...end of story.

plus..you don't have to wait a month for the case either..

Indeed. Vaja makes great cases http//www1.vajacases.com/home_en.html[]http//www1.vajacases.com/home_en.html. They are rather expensive though, $70 and $25 shipping, as they come directly from their factory in South America. There is also a long shipping time because they make your custom case to order, but they do guarantee that you'll receive it within 28 days.

I was thinking of that, but it seems like it adds considerable bulk to the iPod.

The area that covers the wheel is thinner silicon than the rest of the case. It actually works quite well. You just use the wheel just like you would if the iPod wasn't in the case. It is a lilittleli more difficult since the silicon causes a little friction, but nothing I've ever thought annoying or distracting.

The iSkins aren't on back order. I ordered a Carbon 20 AND 40 with next-day shipping, got em in less than 3 days....

I am now going to have to return the 20because I did the 20-40 switch.

How much did you pay for it? $30?

I just bought a lajo iPod skin and an iShade. Came to just $15 or so. Now just time to wait for it to ship ... hopefully it comes at the same time as my iPod.

There's currently a 1/3 off sale so why not take advantage. I hear soon there will be a buy a skin, get a free zipcase promotion...
