My ipod didn't come with a receipt or anything, so how will my warranty work? How can I prove when the "purchase" date was??

This is from the Apple website...
How can I tell if my iPod is in-warranty?
Your iPod is covered by Apple’s One Year Limited Warranty for iPod for one year from the date of original purchase. Apple’s One-Year Limited Warranty begins on the date that the iPod was originally purchased. Apple may need to examine your proof of purchase document to verify your iPod’s warranty status.
Looks like we will need some sort of proof of purchase...

I emailed gratis, they said I just have to call in the serial number. Haven't had a chance to do that yet.

Has anyone had a problem using their warranty without a receipt?

My friend will dropped his freepod in a toilet, and apple gave him a new one no questions asked, without a recipt. He then proceeded to drop it again and get another new one from apple totally free and without recipt.

What did he have to provide? Did he have to send in the old ipod? If not, that's pretty sweet.
