I think the error might have been generated when you type in an address that doesn't match the USPS database. Which is why some orders would go through and others were getting the error.
The server error is probably fixed, but if it should happen again, try finding out how your address is listed with the USPS and type it in the form EXACTLY how they display it. But like I said, it likely won't occur any longer.
