I just got done with my ban. I have no idea how long it was cause I tried logging in now and it worked. I was banned for an anti-freepay comment (I wont repeat it ~ to avoid another ban) but I think it is a little ridiculous that I spoke out against a company, as many people did, and was banned by a representative from that company...
Since he is a full moderator also...does that mean he has access to our trades? Pretty messed up that a company blatently fighting against traders would have access to who is trading...
Also Jake clearly lied to us ( Withheld Information roll ), is this someone who deserves to have moderator status on the forum?
Also I am not sorry for what I said, in fact I whole heartedly stand by it. It also contained no curses (unless you consider Blills a curse). It was clearly a shot against a company that is lieing and attempting to destroy it's reputation with it's customers.

Jake has done a lot for me, so I have nothing against him or his powers here which he doesn't even seem to use. The only reason he withheld information from us is because his boss told him too. He's obviously going to choose his job over a bit of information.

It was only a temp ban and since there were plenty of warnings given by other moderators to calm the rhetoric/flaming/lashing out at others down, I feel that the temp ban was perfectly justified. I won't close this because I am not afraid of what people think. I do my best to help people on the forums out and if they think otherwise, that is their prerogative. I stand by my words and actions on this forum over the past year.

Hell if it weren't for me, the people who were listed as backordered but didn't deserve to be there would still be in that status without any recourse to get themselves out.

But I don't help anyone out and I abuse my power? Right.... roll

I think the problem is too many people think Jake is here as their friend, and he'll do anything to help them out of the kindness of his heart. The fact that he works at Freepay is a blessing, since he can give us inside info.

Jake is a Freepay employee. He is here helping because they want him to. He gives the info they tell him to give, and withholds what they don't. If you're pissed about his recent actions, you should be contemplating your future interactions with Freepay, not Jake.

The point is that you should not be responsible for [i67c17d0cfe]any[/i67c17d0cfe] bans. That's the job of the other moderators; you were given mod status to lock obsolete threads.

I definitely think this is a breach of your power. Your only involvement with this forum is to represent freepay, so you can't dictate if another member should be banned from the entire forum.

I hate to break it to anyone who disagrees but if we as admins/mods thinks he should have those powers we will give them to him which is what we did. Yes Jake is a freepay employee but he is also a mod for his forums and he actually does give input on other aspects of the forum. If jake needs to ban someone then thats fine with us and he tells us if he is going to do something i think this is maybe the 2nd or 3rd time he has ever banned someone. ermm...granted I'm a new guy...but why is it you think that you know what Jake's "involvement" is meant to be? If it was previously explicitly stated somewhere as such, then I apologize.

Otherwise, why would Jake's moderator's status (and responsibilities) be any different than any other mod's?

Yes, he's a freepay employee. But in the short time I've been here I've seen plenty of threads in which Jake's been active where freepay gets bashed...and even where -he- gets bashed. He generally takes it in stride, and I'd wager he goes out of his way -not- to ban because he doesn't want it to be seen as a conflict of interest. I'm a mod on an unrelated forum and trust me...half of the stuff I've seen said here (to Jake and even about Jake) would have resulted in some sort of disciplinary action.

ilanbg

22-03-2006 17:07:53

I don't believe Jake should be a mod because he has ulterior motives as a Freepay employee. I'm all for his locking obsolete or redundant threads (which I was under the impression was the reason he was given mod status), but I'd like to know I'm coming to a forum in which the staff is comprised of people that have no direct affiliations with any of the freesites, and especially those as large as freepay.

That's just my opinion. If the staff disagrees, that's their decision and I won't hold it against them.

thenameisjoe

22-03-2006 17:37:15

it's a clear conflict of interest. I suggest that anyone who doesnt like it do what I do and find another forum to vent your frustration and speak freely about FP's positive as well as negative actions. I may read these forums from time to time but I'd rather users be able to complain/praise freely without any influence from mods, no matter how repetitive it be.

I certainly didn't disagree with his ban. Also, even though there has been tons of Freepay bashing due to the 360s and new policies, Jake has been very slow to do so much as lock a thread.

Even so, I don't think it was right for him to ban a member. If he had a problem he should have taken it to a real mod who would deal with it accordingly. While this particular case may have been agreed upon by the mods, I just don't understand how this can be so. It's like letting a politician count ballets or something; no matter how much you trust him he will have an ulterior motive and shouldn't be in such a position of power.

I completely agree. Such a thing is on par with rigging a presidential election. Both situations are weighted exactly the same based on the number of people each situation affects.

I have yet to find a single ban that Jake has handed out that wasn't completely justified. Every permban that he has set, that I've found, was directly related to someone who was trying to fraud freepay. His motive, to protect his employeer, but that also assists our community by weeding out the crap.

With this recent temp-banning, I applaud Jake for not permbanning him. I know he must be closer to doing it than I am.

When you consider all of the benefits we enjoy because FiPG has a Freepay rep, it is a little easier to understand why Jake has the authority that he does. For all of the time and effort he puts into this forum, he is entitled to moderate discussions when they are excessively disruptive or inaccurate.

Jake's authority is really pretty narrow. He can edit posts (which he almost never does), permanently ban users (which he has done only when users are known to have frauded Freepay or other sites), and temporarily suspend users (which is almost always taken too seriously).

There is a balance of power here. Jake is one of several moderators; though we don't always manage by committee, were he (or any of us) to make a decision that disagreed with FiPG's values or all that is good in the world, that decision would be overturned by the other moderators.

Since there is no risk of a serious abuse of power, it's really just a matter of efficiency to allow Jake to moderate directly. He monitors this forum more closely than any of us; it would be a waste of everyone's time to require him to contact another mod when problems arise.

As always, if anyone wishes to bring specific issues with any moderator to the other moderators' attention, you are welcome to PM any one of us. But there is nothing inherently problematic about Jake's status at FiPG.

I have edited a few posts over the time that I have had my moderator powers but not very many because there generally isn't any need to do so.

For the sake of transparency, I have permabanned a number of users but the majority of those perma bans were for n00bs who came in here and spammed their referral links. If I hadn't reacted that way, I am sure another mod would have come in here and done the exact same thing anyway.

The only temporary suspension that I have given out was to midnightgt, I believe. Please correct me if I am wrong.

While I understand those who suggest there is a conflict of interest by giving him mod powers, the thing about a conflict of interest is that it is complicit by the exploitation of the opportunities it provides, not necessarily the opportunities themselves.

Given one person's grousing about a tempban, I don't think that what we're seeing here is evidence of a larger attempt by Jake to exploit the opportunities he was given as having mod status.

So, yeah, it's a conflict of interest (tho' the mods seem wise enough to point out that he only has such priviliges on the FP forums), but nothing he's exploited to any degree.

I thought the fact of the matter was you told the consumers false information when you knew it to be false, how's that withholding information?... or am I wrong? Did he just not say anything to a million and one questions or answer them with false information?

The difference between Freepay and companies such as Verizon is that they're going to stand by whatever they say. You don't have to worry about them coming out and saying, you know what, I lied, but I was only lying because my superiors told me to so it's really not as bad cause I want my job and don't really care about you guys receiving truthful information. Now whether Verizon and such companies will produce true information all the time is questionable, but they won't go back on their information. Whether that is good or bad is up to your discretion but regardless customers or not going to sit happy w/ smiles when they're lied to.

And I agree, giving a company mod over their own open discussions is unnecessary but it's not like saying that is going to change anything until someone feel he has crossed the line. Just because a topic bashes freepay it shouldn't be closed all the time. I could see if someone states information that they claim as factual and it's not. But when it comes to subjectivity/opinions, let the people speak.

P.S. - I guess that's what separates A4F from FiPG. A4F is willing to sacrifice exclusive information from representatives so that their members and moderators may state their mind. FiPG would rather have exclusive information than allow for their members, in some cases, to speak freely.

It's not like Jake told a big lie. He said the "Back Ordered" Status was a glitch, when in reality, there was some sort of problem with the AOL offer, and they were trying to sort it out. Had they not changed the status on the website (which they weren't obligated to do), no one would have been the wiser.

Jake banning you for 3 days, not a big deal. You probably needed the time to cool down a bit.

As for your posts in general
No whining. If you don't like freepay don't use their service.

No reason to waste your time (and every one elses) whining about this or that. And if you think flaming a company is going to get your item to your door step faster.....

Admin

23-03-2006 10:38:53

this is really fucking simple, so i'm going to lay it out for you.

there is a very clearly stated and enforced rule about flaming and trolling threads. midnight's post was very clearly troll/flamebait and jake temp banned him under fipg's policy. did it happen to be an anti-freepay comment? absolutely. did that effect jake's decision? as a reasonable person i have to admit that it probably did. do i care? no. any moderator on this site is completely and totally within reason to ban for that kind of comment. period.

and as for that a4f comparison,
http/" alt=""/img466.imageshack.us/img="466/8418/giantrolleyes5ox.gif[" alt=""/img4855b32d50]

were you around when wood called the collapse of 4nocash? how about gatita? how long was she around on a4f while "on vacation"? your comment is ludicrous.

PropHet

23-03-2006 11:17:10

You guys just have to bite the hand that feeds you.

As soon as you let these forums digress into flame wars then they become worthless. Threads drag on forever and what was once a usefull discussion turns into a flame war and the intelligent people walk away from them.

If you have a problem state it professionally. I scan most threads just looking for Jake's comments so I can get an idea of what FreePay is trying to get to us.

It is a courtesy that Jake is here at all. If you are going to just be rude then be prepared to suffer the consequenses, reguardless of who deals them out to you. The rules are simple and laid out in plenty of places. Instead of being angry at who you were punished by maybe you should curtail your inappropriate conversational etiquette.
