so i've been online, posting my referral link in the most obscure places on the internet (but on many boards) and i think all my efforts may have been in vain because i heard Gratis puts you on hold for spamming..but its not really spamming technically..what am i to do? has this happened to anyone before?

Everyone does that. It's not like gratis doesn't want you to. As we all know, they just want money.

it says specifically on your site to post it to the internet and messageboards and emails...
they just don't want people to get pissed off from constant spamming. Many messageboards have rules about posting referral links, and if you mass-email people then that would be considered Spam. anything else though and I'd generally say you're ok.
