User did not join via referral link.

I got a yellow today, however it has gone the colour that it goes when refferals are denied. Next to it it says

"Joined, but offer not completed.
User did not join via referral link."

The explanation says they did not correctly use my refferal link. But if they did not use my refferal link, how are they showing up as one of me referrals?!
