I already ordered the acer so I can't really change my mind..
Anyone have an opinion though? I like the widescreen and lightness of the compaq, but the acer seems more reliable.

I ordered Cyberpower 2 days ago on DesktopPC, because I already have a notebook. But, if I were to go for a notebook I would have went for the Acer as well.

I started this same question earlier but i'll put my updated 2 cents in.
After approval yesterday, I went to my local Circuit city and got to use a compaq v2000 series and a acer 3002 series both obviously with upgrades that the freepay ones do not have.
My feeling was that the compaq was smaller, but had a sturdier build, especially the mousepad and keyboard. USB ports were in the front which more makers need to do. Neither laptop I used had an upgraded screen and I was impressed with the compaq over the acer here as well. Screen quality is mportant to me because I am used to hi res large monitors. I used both for a couple of minutes and performance wise it isn't fair to compare because the specs were not the same as those you will recieve through freepay. Tonydanza92 recently posted in brag brag that he has gotten the v2000 through freepay but it came with a sempron now instead of the celeron M, so keep this in mind when making your decision as well. (ie both are gonna have less than par battery life.)
As far as my experience with laptops, I have a dell 9300 with damn near every option and a 19" screen that does 1920x1200. So I am adjusting to the idea of a 14 or 15" screen, but can see the benefit of using it in cramped quarters like a lecture hall or airplane. I went in thinking the screen size would be the biggest determining factor, but I decided to go with the compaq because I thought it was better quality. Hope this helps shed some light to anyone that has to choose between the two.
