Illegal tactic from FreePay?

It has come to our attention that FreePay is not linking about 10-20% of new accounts to the accounts that referred them. When users are using a referral link to create a new account, FreePay "somehow" is not linking the accounts, so when a user does an offer for someone else, that someone else does not get credit.
We think they are doing it on purpose because of the widespread of this "bug." In addition, we can't fathom how a bug could cause this - the programming code is just too simple to have a bug like this.
Have other people seen this?

Who is "we"?
From their FAQ
[quote3de8d5f108]Your referrals MUST join by clicking on your exact referral link, and then complete the sign up process entirely. If they did not click that link, and join, we cannot give you credit. Some applications strip out your referral link, and some people leave off the www for some reason. We also recommend using Internet Explorer 6.0+ as your browser.
We CANNOT retroactively link up accounts after the fact, so if you didn't get credit for a referral, then we are sorry, but you will simply have to refer more people.[/quote3de8d5f108]
So they pretty much put it on user-error which is plausible. There's also the possibility of cookie-errors too

one of my traders signed up, but they didnt show up on my list of referrals, they were allowed to sign up again using a different email address since they didnt complete an offer. i guess it does happen sometimes, but it can be fixed if you are careful.

This never happened to me, and I am on my 9th or 10th freepay site... Maybe I'm just lucky, or my friends aren't retarded.

Wondering the same thing? Did you do some kind of extensive research or are you just throwing numbers around.

10-20%? Lets see some statistics on this one. I've finished or at least signed up for every Freepay site and never not had a ref show up under me or me not show up under a ref, not once...

I don't know about offers "magically" not showing up.. but I did wonder one time I had a guy join and it went grey and said "User joined but not by your referal link".. so I messaged Freepay and was like "Well why the hell is he on my account if he didn't join by my referral link". LOL
Peace.

Did you invite him by email? If so, that might explain it.

no, i run a conga site, and its happening with about 20-30% of the users. there is not much room they can mess up - they click a link and sign up. i've seen this happen in person as well. but good to know they can just make a new account.

You're the only one saying it so maybe your users are 20-30% dumb...

The clicking of a referral link is a very delicate process that can easily be disturbed by the incompetence of the person clicking the link. Hence why admin is right. There are certain conditions which must be met by a user clicking the link before they do so. Please have those people ask questions before launching accusations of malfeasance. I am more than happy to help.
This is chalked up to PEBKAC.
+1 for Admin for that one. You made me laugh nicely. lol

Indeed. I am working on a paper explaining the many similarities between clicking reflinks and lovemaking. Reflinks, like women, must be romanced.

Tell me you're not that slow... These people are trying to get on your conga line for a site that they've already signed up for and thus can't sign up for again under you. Just tell them they're SOL or ignore them. Or continue on with your rigorous investigation of the Freepay conspiracy. Whatever makes you happy. shrug

I just always confirm yellow before doing an offer and ask others to do the same.

Its just funny this random guy is claiming 20-30% links aren't working and hundreds of trades have happened here and no one has ever brought this up. Dumb users...

Something is definately wrong with FreePay's system. One time, I gave a friend (not a noob, he had done this before) through AIM. He clicked the link from there, and it didn't show up on my Status Page. He had to make another email address. Then, I was signing up for a conga line, and I typed in the referral link myself. FreePay told me later that I had signed up on my own without a referral number. Something's up.
