Gripe about Giftcards

So when you sign up for giftcards, and freepay has a link to see what all you can redeem the giftcertificate for, you get a list of sites like this (I'm using electronics as an example, because that's what I'm interested in)
Electronics Gift Certificates
Best Buy
Brookstone®
Circuit City
Cooking.com
Crutchfield Electronics
Discovery Channel Store
Electronics-Supersite.com
Overstock.com
The Sharper Image®
SonyAwards
Staples®
TigerDirect.com
When you actually go to redeem the gift certificate, you get this list
Electronics Certificates
SuperCertificate®
Crutchfield Electronics
Electronics-Supersite.com
SonyAwards
Staples®
TigerDirect.com
Anyone else notice a significant difference between these lists? The list of actual sites you can get is half the advertised list. Best Buy not being there really pisses me off. That's why I did the site. I would have settled for Circuit City, but suprise, they're missing, too.

Wow. That's quite janky.
So the second list shows up in the verification process or when you actually [i6020a9dc7c]get[/i6020a9dc7c] the gift card? For many people's sake, I hope you're saying it showed up during verification, and that the eventual/final list will be complete and the same as the initial advertised group of retailers.
Good luck on that.

[quoted4e39be357="killerman"]is amazon there?[/quoted4e39be357]
no.
"We do not offer Amazon.com gift certificates.
However, we would like to suggest the following alternatives"
another biggie site that is advertised from the freepay link. (I don't think it's freepay's fault, but it is linked from their site, and it's very annoying).

wow, not having amazon and bestbuy is a huge let down. giftcertificates.com needs to update all of their site. that's lame.
there's some good ones on there tho. IMO

If i am not mistaken I think supercificate is the GC that lets you choose all of those places you mentioned. Try calling their cust. service to see

When you redeem the Gift Card, do you have to use all $300 toward one store?

Only reason im going for it is to redeem at overstock.com
EDIT apparently they have recently added those stores, the new list looks like this
Best Buy
Brookstone®
Circuit City
Cooking.com
Crutchfield Electronics
Discovery Channel Store
TransImage
Electronics-Supersite.com
Overstock.com
The Sharper Image®
SonyAwards
Staples®
TigerDirect.com
(for electronics that is, more in other categories)

I still get the same list.
from the link on the giftcards.freepay site, click the giftcertificates.com link. Then click on the SuperCertificate link on the left, and then on "view all merchants" down at the bottom of the page.
that should show you the current list of merchants you can redeem a supercertificate. You can also search for merchants. If you log in, you get the same list of stores that are on this page. So no Best Buy, Circuit City, Amazon... etc. At least not for me...
I really think it's a problem with giftcertificates.com. All of their pages are not in sync. Bad website management?
And thanks for forwarding on my concern, Jake.

I got a $25 supercertificate from Freepay for point based, and there was Amazon, Circuit City, ETC... goto the supercertificates website and check it out.
Supercertificates are emailed to you, so you can redeem it without a long wait time. You can buy many small giftcards to different places, or a big one. Shipping is free.

The General Store I work at is considering not allowing it anymore, as we only have 1-3% of customers using it.
Visa/Mastercard are the two top cards...with MasterCard having slightly more...

Amex is definitely on the out. Which is why they do their wishlist thing, to get new customers. They desperately need them because lots of places are not accepting them anymore.

I mean amex is probably accepted at amazon, bestbuy, all the places we were worried we couldn't use right?

Quite a letdown. Still, in the couple of coming months, I really don't see places like Best Buy or Amazon ceasing to accept amex gift cheques. Without any real disagreement on this point, I think that the amex gift cheques are the way to go.

I doubt AMEX is bleeding money. More likely, they're not getting as much business as they used to a few years ago, because for the most part AMEX requires you to not only a) pay off your balance each month, but b) every AMEX card has an annual fee. With the economy the way it is right now, folks are more likely to pull out their VISA/MC CCs which don't have a fee and allow them to carry a balance.
AMEX charges merchants a higher percentage of every transaction than other cards do (which AMEX uses to protect their cardholders better than any other CC company).
The reason they do the Wishlist promotion is the advertising. If they discount something 50% and sell 100 of them they may lose $50K at the high end (hell the 3 Range Rovers only cost them $210K, and there was likely a you scratch my back I'll scratch yours deal from Range Rover and AMEX) which is significantly less expensive than any advertising they would/could/do purchase.

Hey, just thought I'd let everyone know that I'm redeeming my $300 right now, and even though it's not on the list when you go to the site, you can select best buy gift cards when you're redeeming. Solves that problem, I guess.
