Yes. You will need a W9 form for pretty much every laptop on the site.

Just get it from the IRS website.

What are the repercussions of not filling one out? Specifically, for a minor with no job?

good question, do you have to fill it out to get the laptop or just are required to later on?

freepay wont send you a laptop without the W9 form. If you are a minor with no job your TOTAL yearly income is low (like under 7000) you wont have to pay taxes anyway.

but in order to do a w-9 form you need to be 18 or older. Right? So what happens if u do one while ur 17 and send it in? Any1 do it theirselves with their own ss number under 18?

Not necessarily, basically if you are over 13 but under 18 and make less than $7000/year, you won't have to pay any taxes.

I asked my dad (he is a CPA) since I too am underage (I'm 17) and he said FreePay won't know your income or anything, they just have to have it on file to send to the IRS so they know how much to tax.

ok
so if you dont have to pay taxes, do you stil have to fill out the form?

tylerc

Yes, they have to report that they sent out a gift over $600 to the IRS.

The IRS determines your taxes on it based on your yearly earnings.

yes. the form is mandatory.

there is no age limit for a w-9

even if the info is baloney ( as in unhelpful/unnecessary ) , it doesn't matter, once they have it right? lol

All information needs to be accurate. Otherwise you probably won't get your prize.

so you are SURE i am allowed to fill out a w-9 legally if im 17? Also what if i do that for those sites that say you must be 18 or older to participate, will i get my prize?

tylerc

15-12-2005 14:15:25

As long as they don't find out, probably.

And yes, you need to fill out no matter what.
