[quote6b143007d9="shortys408"]why not the notebooks?[/quote6b143007d9]

because im already getting an apple powerbook and i want a real PC that can run apps.

the notebooks have sucky processors.

Sempron is a good CPU, a little cheap but good. Plus CPU does not matter for apps it is more RAM and HDD speed. But w/e.

LOL u people are funny. Celeron M is the first generation Pentium M, just renamed for budget. It will compare to a 2.8ghz processor roughly (and I ran benches and it was consistent with that cuz my moms 3.0ghz p4 was 3 seconds slower than the notebook). Those desktops are HORRIBLE lol. Cyberpower has NO power at all.

And BTW I can run Halflife2 on low/medium with that gateway laptop lol. Not bad at all.

Any Pentium below 4 is a slow processor for me.

and yes processor speed does matter for apps. If it didn't matter, then they wouldn't be upgrading them constantly and be switching to 64bit processors.

You're an ignorant moron. Pentium M is far more powerful than PIV, a pentium m 1.7ghz processor compares with a pentium 4 3.1ghz becuase its just a more powerful core.

Learn about computers please before you make stupid ignorant statements. 64bit proccessing is a marketing ploy you fell right into with the other million retards. 64bit means they can calculate a bigger number, not faster. NOTHING USES 64BIT PROCESSING EVEN IF IT WAS COMPILLED FOR 64BIT IT WOULD NOT USE ANY MORE SHIT. SERVERS ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT CAN EVEN BEGIN TO USE IT AND I DO NOT BELIEVE THEY EVEN DO THAT MUCH. But I am not sure because I am not into server computing.

But CPU speed does not matter much for most applications. Obviously for ones that calculate pi or do CRC checks it does or encode video, but that is rare. But all in all RAM > CPU in applications.

I hope thoose benchmarks where offical benchies like pi and shit not application load times.

The first one is faster CPU wise. The last one boasts 333mhz DDR so it must be DDR666 and that just pwns, but I doubt it and that it is really just DDR333 and a huge marketing ploy thinking that 166mhz = 333mhz because it can calc on the rising and falling edges of the clock. DDR333 is usually not seen in desktop nowadays. The other are probaly DDR400, and if that is true it is better then DDR333. Of course there is other factors such as Cas Latency 1.5-2-2-5 is the best. First number is the most valuable, last is the least.

btw.. 64-bit computing ONLY refers to the address bus (and at this point, I believe the address bus on those 64-bit processors are running at 44-bits, so your only get 12 bits more address bus for your buck.. No programs that I know of fully implement the 64bit bus. Intel's 64bit is not backwards compatible but the AMD Opteron is.

Stick with the 32bit until they actually offer a full 64-bit address bus with seamless backwards compatibilty, and software has been made to take advantage of it.

Cool. I just ordered my 15" Powerbook with 1GB RAM on the 14th. I have been wanting one forever! It costs a butt load but I plan on having it for a while. My friend has an iBook and wants to get a Powerbook but keeps saying he is going to wait until the G5's come out. I think that will be a while and I can't wait any longer because I need it for school. Which one did you order? It said it's still processing and estimated ship on or before the 25th! I hope it gets here quicker than that!
