btw, i wouldn't try it if it's engraved with freeipods.com, it isn't right?

oh yea, and please post your status here http//www.freeipodguide.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2383

Is it really worth the extra $200 for the Photo Color ipod?

Are you kidding? Nevermind the fact that you're getting the best and latest iPod out for only $200 (whereas the 4G 40GB is almost $400 alone), but this iPod has Album art for each song, you can store all your DigiCam pics on it and view slideshow on the TV. It has a much more elegant color scheme, and it boasts an extra 3 hours of playback (audio)

I'd say thats worth $200 eh?

Oldfashionedhussy

27-10-2004 19:22:47

will apple still sell the regular ipods that we're getting(as an option for the people that sont want to shell out the extra money), or will they phase out of them?

if i thought id ever have more than 20gb of music, id definitly go for it. (or the 40gb iriver)

but pfft. i only have like 6 gigs of music as it is.

has this worked for anyone? I mean, don't the stores usually ask why you're trading in a brand new $300+ ipod without a receipt to the store???

if not... great! just wondering what the exact process of doing this is?

Stores will usually take stuff back without receipts, but don't expect cash back, STORE CREDIT.

pcmsurf

27-10-2004 20:52:31

also if they ask why you dont have a reciept tell them you think they got it as a gift from "insert store your trying to take it back" this way if the serials dont match you dont look guilty and you have a good excuse for taking it back

My luck with returns

1. Bestbuy - no dice
2. CompUSA - took it back - griped about it - very hard to do (my roomate did it with his)
3. Target - would take it back for store credit - only had the 3rd generation 20gb's and who wants one of these? (note you can only do 3 per year; they track your ID)
4. Walmart - no iPods
5. Office Depot - JACKPOT! No issues, no questions. Exchanged apple 20gb for an HP 40gb (note you can only do 3 per year; they track your ID)

Office Depot $294 store credit (tax not calculated), new iPod was $399.99
So the difference here was 105.99 + 7% tax = $112.35 out of pocket.

I think compusa gave $299 store credit.

I was a little scared at office depot because they don't even stock apple iPods (in Gainesville, anyway) but it scanned and they took it back anyway. I was really happy.

What about the Apple store? Because no other retail stores have the iPod Photo just yet, but I guess in the future they will have it...

Also, I think at the Apple store you can say that someone bought it for you online from Apple.com, since Gratis is ordering direct from Apple anyway, right? So I think thats a safe bet... what do you guys think?

we all have our web order number, it was on your shipping label, but that'd mean you'd be getting less than the 299 credit, prolly more like 200-250

Carina

I went to the Apple store in Atlanta and just told them that I got an iPod as a present, but I don't have nearly enough music for it and I'd rather have a green mini (I called beforehand so I also threw in that I was told before it would be alright). They took a little while figuring out how to do it while I wandered off and managed to find $50 worth of stuff I wanted. Since I had a student ID, I actually got $70 store credit (regular iPod price minus student mini price). So I walked out with a green mini, lots of gadgets, and a $20 gift certificate. -P

Also, freeipods.com still says I'm STV. If I wasn't able to track shipments with the reference number I still wouldn't have it cause FedEx just leaves packages at the office in my apartment complex without leaving a note or anything saying that they were there. My parents sent me a present once, over a month later finally asked how I liked it and I had no clue what they were talking about. Sure enough I had a package that had been sitting in the office for several weeks. I hate FedEx...

what i meant by that is you need some confirmation that you bought it online, either printed receipt, etc.

when i first called the other day, only the 60 gbs were in, now they have the 40s in.

good luck to all trying to switch!

heres hoping your ipod comes soon before 300 people go to the apple store and ask for exchanges and they start requiring receipts

Oldfashionedhussy

29-10-2004 18:43:40

I doubt it. Most major stores have a return policy that allows non-receipt returns in exchange for goods or store credit. Hell, I worked at Victoria's Secret and they're return policy allows ANYTHING to be returned. If you don't like it, return it and exchange for something else or get a merchandise credit for it-and believe me, i've seen some nasty shit being returned... some women have no shame.

but anyways, yeah- most major stores allow non-receipt returns anyways )

if you open the box you can't return?

twistrman

04-11-2004 22:13:04

This is my first post, but i've been reading a lot on here since i started on fip. This post has really started making me think if once i get mine if i want to trade it in for a bigger one (i'm always upgrading things...all this while i wait for a couple more referrals). So here's my question, i get the fact that the box should be completely unopened, but i think i read a post where someone was saying that some of them were engraved with freeipods.com on the back. But you would never be able to tell this if you don't open it... kind of a catch 22.

so what do you guys think?

lucky enough though if it all works out, i get the student discount, we have an apple store actually on campus in our computing center (another downtown) and the people in the apple store i doubt know what the hell is going on with anything computer related...

Oldfashionedhussy

04-11-2004 22:50:45

wouldnt there be a code or something in the box letting them know it was engraved?

levinmiester

04-11-2004 22:53:51

yah usually to get store credit, all you do is tell them you dont have a reciept but that you baught it a while ago. I've done this for other stuff that i needed to. Also, if bestbuy sells the photoipods, you can prob get store credit there as well

caveman
