So, I'm sitting here thinking about my iPod (which, by the way, is OUT FOR DELIVERY) according to UPS.

I never really had the drive to get an iPod before I heard about the site. How many of you have been turned on to the whole iPod revolution by this?

I've always wanted one, but I never wanted to lay down the cash.
This is perfect. I got it for free. If I really enjoy it and use it a lot, when the new 5G ones come out, I'll probably buy one.

Ditto.

I've always wanted one but due to more important expenses, I figured that I didn't want to spend that much on it. So I got a cheaper Rio mp3 player... hopefully when I get the iPod, I won't have to waste so much on batteries (my Rio mp3 player eats up batteries like crazy)

Same here, but I feel that way about ALL Apple products. I've always said that if I was a millionare, I'd get a powerbook.

Agreed. I once suggested that Gratis Internet should create something along the lines of http//www.freepowerbook.com or http//www.freeibook.com ... doubtful, of course.

I have always wanted one, but couldn't afford one. This was perfect.

Do you honestly think the average joe could get the probably 40-80 referrals necessary for the powerbook? There is a very specific reason why Gratis' referral sites all offer products in the $250-500 range. It means that it's verye POSSIBLE for people to complete the referrals and also for Gratis to make money.

I've always wanted an iPod to some extent, but was never willing to shell out the $300 required to own one.

ive never really wanted one, i always wanted one of the iPod alternatives like the creative jukebox or iRiver blah blah, whatever was meant to compete with it

i heard that the iPod has a crappy battery and you have to order a new one from apple to replace it or something. that totally turned me off.

now im getting ready for my iPod, ive been shopping for a firewire pci card, iSkins, ect ect

The batteries have been known to be an issue, but I see that there are some other companies offering longer life batteries now.

As for the alternatives, I never considered any of them because the iPod's interface has been known to work exceptionally well... and come on, what's cooler than carrying around an iPod right now? It's like high school all over again and wanting to be part of the in crowd! LOL

I really really wanted one when I was in school, and I was saving up actually, but school ended and i am on the PC 18 hours a day now so I don't need one until I start college next spring..

My friend stole a 40gig a long time ago (1st or 2nd gen) and I got super jealous when he showed it to me, it was so shiny and cool, that's when I started wanting my own. That's also when I started getting into music a lot.

i always wanted an ipod, but couldnt really afford it, and i could get the money for it, but 300$ for an mp3 player just isnt right...

i honestly dont see how in the hell Gratis can benefit from this

most of the time, the referal companies arent seeing a dime of our money, and Gratis shouldnt get any either.

hacktek

16-09-2004 14:49:20

Gratis earns commissions for every referral. I think they mostly benefit from the one-time join/completes(like i get a friend to sign up for me but he doesn't complete the program) or people who start but get bored because they can't find referrals..in other words, people who don't go through the whole process. That's what i think. They have more than 3 years on the business so they must really know how to do it and benefit from it ;)

Hacktek, I think you're right. I mean, I don't think one of my referrals is going to continue to get their own. So Gratis benefitted. As for the advertisers, you don't know how many people forget to cancel, or like the service and keep it, or purchased an item. The advertisers are definitely benefiting. Take AOL. Someone signs up and then - for some odd reason - keeps it, it was well worth the $20 or whatever they paid for that referral.
It's kind of like insurance. They're playing a game of chance. But no matter what, even in a perfect situation, Gratis will make money.
Plus, do you really think they are giving ecost thousands of iPod orders and not getting a break on the price?

I was seriously considering the dell mp3 player. I was just about all set to buy it, and at almost the same time, three friends told me about freeipods. I delayed my purchase, never got the thing, and now am waiting for my iPod to ship. $200 is pushing it for an mp3 player, but $300 is way too much.

I originally wanted an iPod but could NEVER afford it - so I heard about FIP and it made me happy for a while ... now im pissed -D

Just remember, you get what you pay for.
If iPod wasn't worth $300, Apple wouldn't be able to sell as many of the things...

PallarAndersVisa

and you're essentially getting a 20 gig portable hard drive the size of a deck of cards. go look for a portable USB/Firewire hard drive this small and see how much it costs

I was also going to get a Dell DJ, until I talked to some people at work who had them and found out how locked down they are. According to these guys, you HAVE to use the included software and it DOESN'T show up as a removable drive in explorer, so dragging and dropping is out of the question. I could be wrong on that...it's been awhile since I talked to them. They also mentioned you can't get MP3s off the DJ onto a different computer after you upload them...plus it's heavy and clunky and the added battery life wasn't really worth it. Long live the overpriced elitist trendy iPod! )
