I thought this
"not upfront, but a % is ducted from your income tax , before you recieve your income tax"
but have since read this
Although there's no income tax on gifts, there is such a thing as a gift tax. The gift tax is imposed on the donor. The person receiving the gift does not have to pay this tax.
So im not really sure. My biggest concern was jsut giving out such important info like Social Security #

Ok did a little reasearch and looks like when you fill out the w-9 form the cost of the laptop will basicly become income when it comes time to pay your taxes. Did gratis say how much they are gonna file the laptop as?

Let's say the laptop is valued at $600. The income tax % for most of us would be 15%. So that would mean, we'd have to pay about $90 in taxes just for the laptop.

What I dont understand is the Apple Mac was valued at $599 + Taxes they never sent one with it. Were talking about a difference of a $1. I went to the Gateway site and a brand new Gateway Laptop of the same Model name with alot more upgrades after rebater is valued at $599, so Gratis/FreePay cant be or at least shouldnt be buying these things for $599.
So basically they are treating it like you entered a sweepstakes! And won a prize. When in fact you did a ton of work for it. So its called a "gift" instead , because when u recieve something in exchange for service it not considered. But these arent really gifts because we are providing a service. WE ARE ALL TRULY AFFILATE MARKETORS , just with no dental plans)
Which means that ALL the "free" products should be reported to IRS as income, BUT if it was like that it would be MANDATORY for them to give u the "gifts" after completion, and they wouldnt be able to put people on hold.

But gratis is under a magnifying glass seeing as how much more popular they are in the public eye than all the other freebie companies. It is understandable that they would be required to do this.
What kind of info does this form ask, again? I don't remember what it was for when I applied for a job.

Is Gratis going to tell us exactly how much the laptop is valued at? Because if they file $600 and I file $550 or whatever, this could lead to problems with taxes, which could lead to problems with the IRS (being audited)...

You have to complete it and send it in before you can recieve you recieve your item(
Meaning it wont STV until the post office get it to them!
This is what was in the email
"I apologize for not being clearer in my original email below. This below-mentioned form is required to be filled out for “gifts” that are valued at over $600. The following excerpt from our Terms and Conditions, more clearly states this fact
d) If your free product reward from Gratis Internet is valued at more than $600, you will be required by federal law and any applicable state law to claim the value of your reward. Therefore, an IRS W-9 form will be provided to you via email. This form must be completed in its entirety and returned to Gratis Internet in order to receive your free product reward from us.

Im sick and tired of this constant complaining. If gratis decided to make us pay 200 bucks to get the laptop it wouldnt matter! Were still getting it for an incredible deal! Stop whining about getting free stuff. Gratis is doing nothing wrong, they are simply obiding by the laws that our forefathers set for us. Stop complaining and go get a job. And stoogepid, gratis does NOT make money on compelted sites. All referal sites lose money when their site is completed(besided casino sites). They make their money on unfinished sites.

at least you get a free laptop -D
Technically, the laptop is a form of income which according to US law, must be declared when you file your tax return.
Hence, why we have made this mandatory.

It depends how much you make or even if you have a job. It would be around $100 for me. Less if you don't have a job and no income at all.

Is Gratis going to tell us exactly how much the laptop is valued at? Because if they file $600 and I file $550 or whatever, this could lead to problems with taxes, which could lead to problems with the IRS (being audited)...

Yes.
At the end of the year, our CFO will send out official invoices to everyone who has received a gift from us that qualifies under this law which states the value of the gift received for your tax purposes. This way, you will all have accurate information to declare on your tax forms. )

Great! Thanks for the response. Now I'm assuming what you said above will only apply to the laptop or anything valued over $600? For example, if I received an iPod and a laptop, I will only be getting an invoice for the laptop? Is this a correct assumption?
Again, thanks for all of your help.
