Hello guys, just got my ipod yesterday, I'm pretty happy, and hope those of you are still stving good luck.
I read the manual today, and installed itune, and ready to charge my ipod.
Weeks ago, I saw an article on some other websites about the battery of the ipod, they said it's not good to charge it too full or use out the power completely, how are you guys dealing with your battery?
Also, about the format of the ipod(apple), do you have to format it manually or ....(how do you format it?)
I'm getting a skin too, any suggestions? I don't know how are they fitting on the ipods, and how do they actrually look like. Any good place to buy the skins for a cheaper price?(except ebay)
Thanks ya'll and have a good day! )

My iSkin came today. I don't have an iPod to put it on yet, but from what I can tell, it's going to be a damn good fit. Well worth the $40, IMO. My girlfriend doesn't agree.

I use the iSkin with it.
As to batteries
[quoted8c9cd280a] A lithium-ion battery provides 300-500 discharge/charge cycles. The battery prefers a partial rather than a full discharge. Frequent full discharges should be avoided when possible. Instead, charge the battery more often or use a larger battery. There is no concern of memory when applying unscheduled charges.
Although lithium-ion is memory-free in terms of performance deterioration, batteries with fuel gauges exhibit what engineers refer to as "digital memory". Here is the reason Short discharges with subsequent recharges do not provide the periodic calibration needed to synchronize the fuel gauge with the battery's state-of-charge. A deliberate full discharge and recharge every 30 charges corrects this problem. Letting the battery run down to the cut-off point in the equipment will do this. If ignored, the fuel gauge will become increasingly less accurate. (Read more in 'Choosing the right battery for portable computing', Part Two.) [/quoted8c9cd280a]
(from http//www.batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-34.htm)
If you're too lazy to read that, it basically says to recharge often. The battery is better maintained with frequent recharging (and if you dont discharge it past 50%). Only perform a full discharge and recharge if the battery guage is inaccurate.

I've been using itunes for all my music. I didn't like it at first because it didn't have some of the flashy features of Windows Media Player, but the more I started using it the more I liked it. I would recomend it to anybody, especially if you have a lot of full albums and not just singles. I haven't heard anything really bad about it, XP works fine with it.

Do you have to have iTunes running on your computer all the time or just when you're uploading songs? All of the other MP3 player software you could just have it running when you wanted to upload songs to it, which was often since they didn't hold as much as the ipod. Then you could quit the app and never see it again until you needed it.

I love using iTunes. It doesn't slow down my computer at all (P4 2.4 1GB) and it's great now that I have my whole library organized and tagged.
I used to prefer the simpler programs like WinAmp 2 that didn't use music libraries and were just simple file players, even WMP bugged me. Then iTunes came along, and I didn't like it right at first, but now I swear by it.
I've never had any problems with it deleting all my songs or anything along those lines.
Oh and the iTunes store is great too, nice and fast.

I got a AMD XP 2100 (1.7GHz) and 256MB PC3200....itunes runs fine. Make sure you install the latest itunes version. Memory issues have been dealt with and everything runs pretty good now.

I love using iTunes. It works perfectly for organizing a large collection of music.
I have yet to find any other references to people "losing" MP3s through iTunes. I believe it's called "Operator error."

Yea that's true, but only if you hook up your iPod to a different computer than you usually hook up your iPod to. This is because iTunes does a synchronization with the iPod and if it has never synched with your iPod before it will just delete all files it didn't recognize and place the songs that are checked in iTunes onto the iPod.
The only way to avoid this is to disable automatic synchronization in iTunes [id849e0b997]before[/id849e0b997] connecting the iPod to the computer. You can then create a playlist with the songs that you want from iTunes and then right-click the playlist and select "Send to iPod" or whatever the menu is....
Hope that's helpful guys, consider yourself warned! lol
